View Full Version : Finally... my clean BB [No 56k]
dgarvich 01-21-2007, 03:47 PM I finally got around to posting some pictures of my bone stock BB after I cleaned it. Some people had seen pictures and asked me to post them along with what I did to the car. To be honest, once I saw how well the pictures my sister took turned out I wished I had planned to have the car at a more exotic locale rather than in front of my place. But oh well... maybe next time!
So here's what I did, pics will follow:
1. Washed the car (of course)
2. Clay Bar (I used Clay Magic)
3. Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Step 2 (the Polish step)
4. Meguiar's nxt Tech Wax Paste
I worked the polish in, removed the polish and applied the wax by hand. I went over the wax with a buffer once it had dried and then went over it all by hand a last time.
Since I did the work (a few weeks ago) the car has been driven daily and has seen some weather. I've been really, really impressed with the way the wax has held up.

UFGator12 01-21-2007, 03:58 PM Uhh that's my car. For real, exact same with everything even down to the strakes, tint, and moonroof deflector. Good choice! :) http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/955/dscn09677he.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Razz1 01-21-2007, 04:00 PM Wow a black stock RX8.

Yeah, it's stock. I blew up my RX-7 by pretending I had enough money to own / drive a race car. Hopefully I won't do that to this car. :P
I'm really just posting the pictures to show the detailing on the car and give people who had asked me about it some pictures of a car detailed using Meguiar's products. Perhaps it should have been in the detailing forum... but the pics were big so I figured they'd go best here.
moRotorMotor 01-21-2007, 04:19 PM It looks like you missed a spot :p: Just messing with you. It looks stunning. :ylsuper:

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I saw that after the picture was taken but the picture was a cool reflection shot so I decided to use it anyway.
You can see by the daylight I was rushing to get everything finished for the pictures. It's the best time of day to take pictures like this but it's also the shortest window to take pictures in.
I gave a serious D'oh when I saw that hehe

Will you please stop with the jerk comments? In every thread you have some comment complaining about how you don't like the car in some way. I'll have to say what I really think about your car the next time you make a thread rather than keeping my mouth shut.
pernell10 01-21-2007, 05:03 PM ha ha that's called the hatin virus. a lot of that going around.
a clean BB that lasted 5 seconds before a lay of dust caught up to it?
XDEEDUBBX 01-21-2007, 05:14 PM very clean! time for some mods! make yoruself stand out..
Hightshoe 01-21-2007, 05:28 PM Very nice, but why take pics with the sunroof open? It akes so much away from the looks of the car.
BlueFrenzy 01-21-2007, 05:46 PM Good job on the detailing. Love the pic of the hood and clouds. Wish it would stop snowing here, so I can wash and detail my car.
Zero_Rotary 01-21-2007, 09:00 PM mirror finish...nice
'87 Turbo II 01-21-2007, 09:07 PM damn, that's like driving a mirror. NICE! I can only hope that when I repaint my car, I have the patience to keep it looking that nice.
redcivic 01-21-2007, 09:17 PM Very nice man. Don't mind Razz, he is just hatin' because his car has no flow and it's always dirty in every pic.
snipaz2420 01-21-2007, 09:26 PM wow looks good. its to cold over in ny to give my bb a good cleaning and waxing. have to settle with the car wash. if you want to complete the look go for some clear corners they look really nice on black. but well done regardless.
MissyK 01-22-2007, 01:14 AM i could use dat car as a mirror!!!!

I definitely agree with that... of the (very) few modifications I plan to make to this car that's one of the ones near the top of the list.
Thanks all for the kind words!
Tanaka826 01-22-2007, 01:39 AM i wanna get my car detailed sooooo badly!!!
VarneyMazda 01-24-2007, 03:01 PM Wow a black stock RX8.

DarkBrew 01-26-2007, 09:25 PM Looks beautiful man. How long did it take to make it look that good?
I'd add clear corners to complete the look (if you won't get pulled over)
As for those wheels a few posts back.... just say no!
HolyCross05 01-26-2007, 09:53 PM You should have gotten the chrome wheels.

It actually took me longer than it probably should have. The weather was beautiful and I had a long weekend so I didn't really rush anything. I just washed the car and pulled it into the garage on Saturday morning and went to work. I worked about 4 hours on Saturday and 3-4 hours on Sunday. If you moved quickly you could probably cut that time down a lot.
The car actually stayed "clean" for about a week (garage kept, parked in a deck during the day). I'm on the other side of week three now and... well... it's definitely ready for some love again. ;)
Phantom Menace 01-27-2007, 03:03 PM ...the pictures my sister took...

New Yorker 01-27-2007, 05:50 PM Looks absolutely fabulous—it's perfect!
Though I can't believe you blurred out not just your license plate, but the name of your street. (You know, with a little Photoshop, you can make those houses in the background look like an apartment complex.)

New Yorker 01-27-2007, 08:55 PM Hey, how often do you clay bar? I usually do it once a year—is that not enough?

I wouldn't recommend any more often than that unless you had a specific need for it.
