its good that they're now using more and more of the super and turbo chargers. Instead of "theres no replacement for displacement" (viper slogan)

Never thought I'd hear myself say this but I'm tired of the horsepower war. What's the point of it in a country where you can't exceed 70 mph???

It use to be sports cars were always faster than sedans and pick up's but now that's totally screwed up. I worry about people with a 600 hp car. When I was a Deputy patrolman, a doctor in my town bought a new viper and proceeded to flip it into a ditch after trying to show off to a friend. He had no idea what 400 hp could do.

I'm sure I'll be flamed.

I like what Chevy is rumored to be doing when/if they release the "blue devil." They will include in the cost of the car a performance driving course so people can learn the limits of the car and how to handle it. Seems like a good idea to me when you've got 600+ under the hood.

It'll backfire in a number of ways. For example, thay have already restricted the top speed of motorcycles, or some higher power bikes have power limiters in lower gears.

Fact is, in today's litigious society they'll just put so much electronic aids on those cars anyways. It'll also just encourage tree hugger types to pursue the industry to tighten emissions or fuel economy standards, all costing us more $$ in the long run. I could see insurers black listing certain cars like they do bikes. Or governments to pursue speeders and "street racers" even more. Do enthusiasts need more attention from cops and insurers?

Manufacturers should focus first on building them better, like why not less weight vs. more hp, or simple vs. complicated.

Here Here!!! Couldn't agree more! Quality before quantity.

Hey I know this might be off topic. Has anyone seen the rap video "lost one" by JAY -Z? What kind of car is that black one he is driving around?

The biggest thing is that most of the buyers will not be enthusists but simple bench racers or people with too much money wanting to show off what they can buy. The only car out of the ones mentioned that I want, lust after, is the GTR. The GTR will attract more true enthusists than the others.

who cares how much HP a car makes if it weighs 2 tons? Seriously, some things need a hemi just to move the car out of the garage. 300HP does not impressive me if your family sedan weighs 3700lbs.

I'm embarrased I know this...a Maybach concept car. Real cool (the car, not Jay-Z).

It's hard to tell at this point. If Nissan can keep the car's weight and price down, then there's a good chance that this will be true. If the car costs and weighs more than the Z06 with less power and worse gas mileage, then its enthusiast following will be very much in line with the other cars, if not a little behind. We won't know until Nissan releases specs.

I don't want to go 170 mph. I just want to go from 0-80 mph really, really fast. At every stop light.

Flamed? Nah dude you're right on. I'm still trying to get over the 16-17 yr old kids I see driving M3's, GTO's and STI's around.

I'm not really hating on the young and fortunate. It's just that 9 times out of 10 they're all over the place in the twisties and full out-balls to the wall on any little straight including residential streets.

I kinda like the horsepower wars! I just get curious about what the different car makers can do! One of the more interesting things going on is that in Detroit Dodge announced the Viper is getting a bump to 600hp! Of course everyone knows this will probably give GM what they needed to stop beating around the bush and release the Corvette SS!

See Viper news here! (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007701130373)
