View Full Version : Goodbye Cruel World!
DontHateThe8 01-14-2007, 03:21 PM About a month ago, was one of the saddest weeks of my life. I had just finished up my finals for the semester and was driving home from the store. then, bam. someone pulled out right in front of me. SH!T. crash. The "funny" part, if there is such a thing, is that i had just bought a helmet cam for my upcoming snowboarding trip, which just so happened to be mounted to the car and just so happened to be filming. And guess what, i put it on youtube. I was only going 40 before I hit the brakes, so the actual crash was pretty slow. I did feel like I fought a pro-wrestler the next morning though.
Rx-8 Wreck (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXx-i_JanFg)
If you watch carefully, or frame by frame, you can see that the guy never even looks left in my direction, despite the fat that i was honking at him for at least 4 seconds prior to impact. The impact was so great that the camera turned off from the force.
Long story short. totalled. goodbye. I did get to pull off as much stuff off the car as i thought wouldnt get me in trouble. So i have a few things for sale, i dont know if i can say here? but its full turboXS exhaust and midpipe, key fobs, nav disk, O2 sensor, spare, factory jack. Ill post a post in the classified section soon.
I have tons of pics of my cars, they are all here at fquick.com (http://www.fquick.com/kingpin08)
Mystery 01-14-2007, 03:24 PM damn and u werent even goin that fast
redcivic 01-14-2007, 03:32 PM Some people.
Clavius 01-14-2007, 03:51 PM Oh jesh.. friggin' moron SUV drivers. I hope you get a decent amount for you car though since its totaled. Thankfully though you have video so if you decided to sue you have clear evidence of his/her guilt.
hahaha, Texas has the biggest everything....
including the biggest idiots...
NoTears316 01-14-2007, 04:05 PM That really sucks, but like was already said, atleast you have video proof of what a tool that guy is.
sorry to hear that. but dang way to have a video for proof haha =P
JeRKy 8 Owner 01-14-2007, 04:43 PM It's definitely not your fault since he was blocking the right of way, but if I had been driving at that moment I most likely would have just stayed in the right lane, stopped, honked and gave him the finger instead of trying to move to the left to avoid his car because his SUV was already half way in the right lane.
Anyway that video is horrible. The way it stops right before the smash, makes it seem like your car was headed straight towards his body and he was going to die. Heh. But the worst part is that it shows the final seconds of your 8's existence. Sad. http://www.rx8club.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
boostthat3 01-14-2007, 04:54 PM DAMN! That sucks man!! :'( I would cry. did you show the video to insurance or whoever? I couldn't tell if that was a guy or girl or if they were on their cell phone or not.. I would be super pissed if that happened to me.
Clavius 01-14-2007, 05:22 PM Visited his site.. this picture I found on it, is the guy in the green shirt the owner/driver of the SUV. He doesnt look like a happy camper at all.

Razz1 01-14-2007, 05:43 PM You drove right into him. Never should have swerved left. You hit the brakes way too late.
If you used your horn the video doesn't prove it. Horns don't do s**t.
You need an accident avoidence class.
alerx-8's 01-14-2007, 05:53 PM guy looks like a queer , sry hear about this , where in san antonio was this? i bet ur thinking what would of happen if u stayed in the right lane : (
redcivic 01-14-2007, 06:22 PM Oh, shit I didn't even realize that this happened in SA. Were you hurt bad? If you need treatment look me up. I manage a chain of clinics in SA. I work with just about every atty in town. If you get one just email me and I will give you the lowdown. We see about 80 patients a day so there is no one bigger in town.
DontHateThe8 01-14-2007, 08:16 PM Actually, this happened in College Station, the day before I was to go home to SA. I have been to the doctor because the left wheel was pushed back into the car, right where my foot was. My ankle is fairly messed up, but other than that I've been to a therapy for it and i think there shouldn't be any real long term effects. It locked up my sub-taylor joint, stressing all my tendons. so with certain exercises i should be ok. Thanks for your concern though everyone. except for Razz. But I did show the video to the cop and the insurance company. After the cop saw it he immediately wrote the other guy a ticket, placing the blame entirely on him. And lets say I made out fairly well with the insurance company.
It still sucks, but you can't do things like ask yourself what if you wouldnt have moved around to go around him. Sucks that if i were a girl on a cell phone not paying attention and wouldn't have done the defensive thing to go around him it might not have happened. But that was full brakes from when he went from blocking the right lane, to blocking the left lane. There were long on and off anti-lock brake skid marks.
How do i post pictures?
Clavius 01-14-2007, 08:21 PM ^On the site you posted the pictures up. When you click on them to view the full versoin it gives you a list of options to the right. One is for "Forums". Just Copy that and paste it into a post. your looking for a [IMG] kinda tag
jskup1 01-14-2007, 08:23 PM The video almost makes it look like you were aiming for him. What a dumbass though. It actually looked like to me that he saw you but thought you would stop.
RedSheDevil 01-14-2007, 08:25 PM wow, im amazed that car was considered totalled. frame damage?
redcivic 01-14-2007, 08:27 PM Glad to see you are okay!
DontHateThe8 01-14-2007, 08:27 PM I dont think you can do this on youtube, but on the original you can go frame by frame, and he doesn't even look left the entire time. he is looking at the car that is sitting in the median. And as you can see from the picture, his route44 drink he was drinking spilled all over him.
Yeah, frame damage, the right rear door needed two hands to struggle to get it to open
redcivic 01-14-2007, 08:32 PM Just make sure you get compensation for long term medical expenses. I hurt my back when i was young and was not worried about then but now it really bothers me and I may need surgery at some point.
mahuna 01-14-2007, 11:28 PM You drove right into him. Never should have swerved left. You hit the brakes way too late.
If you used your horn the video doesn't prove it. Horns don't do s**t.

nice of you to turn it into the victims fault.......i`m just glad you dont work for my insurence company

Jesus...the man just lost his 8. Have a little empathy for the guy you sick bastard.
The proper defensive maneuver in that situation would probably have been to just stay in the right lane and stop, but I just noticed in the video from 0:13 to 0:17 that there was a big black Range Rover turning right in front of the other SUV, which probably blocked the SUV's view of the little oncoming red RX-8, and it probably also blocked DontHateThe8's view of the SUV. The guy in the SUV probably started inching out right after he saw the Range Rover turn into the lot, without even noticing there was an 8 behind it.
Either way you look at it, it's still the SUV's fault for failing to yield way to oncoming traffic, but oh well.
DontHateThe8: By the way, how and where did you have that camera mounted? And do you have any idea of what your next car is going to be?
REV_ME_62 01-15-2007, 01:06 AM Damn...... another prestigious VR out of the street. That guy needs spanking from uncle wankle!
BigOLundh 01-15-2007, 01:13 AM You need an accident avoidence class.Im pretty sure the guy in the SUV is teh one who needs the accident avoidence class.
DontHateThe8 01-15-2007, 02:32 AM the camera is a samsung sc-210l (http://samsung.com/Products/Camcorder/DigitalMemory/SC_X205LXAA.asp) and I have the external lens strapped to one of those cam-lock suction cups. it is attached on the outside top of the driver's side windshield. The cable then runs through the slightly cracked side window. I was looking forward to trying it out at the autocross this month, but not anymore... :((
Well, i made some money through insurance, because i got a pretty ridiculous deal on the 8, and upgraded (via another insane deal) to an '04 CTS-V. This car is just on a whole other level. Although you can feel that it is heavier, it seems to handle just as well, is more loaded, and is way faster. So far the biggest withdrawals I am having is from the crappy crappy shifter. I am content with my upgrade though. (fold flat rear seats!! I can fit my wakeboard in my car again! sad that i am so excited about something so lame)
phat8 01-15-2007, 10:12 AM aargh, that's terrible. ''a minute of silence.'' at least no suv's can pop up when u're boarding... suv's r just as bad, if not worse here in SOUTH AFRICA. at least ur ok. enjoy your new ride, post some pics!
dmc27 01-15-2007, 01:15 PM sux. sorry dood.

Yea, there is always one
RotaryP7 01-15-2007, 02:53 PM Yes, that guy was retarded. The same thing almost happened to me the same month I got the car last year. I had to brake all the way in..
VarneyMazda 01-17-2007, 04:49 PM You drove right into him. Never should have swerved left. You hit the brakes way too late.

wow you my friend are an idiot.
Jedi54 01-17-2007, 05:01 PM (subscribing so I can watch when I get home)
Sorry to hear about your loss, that really sucks. Any idea what you'll be getting next?
Rhawb 01-17-2007, 05:21 PM Man, I'm just waiting for that to happen to me. We have a ton of aggressive SUV driving idiots around here, plus we've got these horribly slow, yet somehow still oblivious soccer moms causing rolling road hazards around here. I find myself in LOTS of dangerous situations around here - maybe I've just avoided a wreck because I seem to get into a situation every time I leave the house, so I'm geared up for it.
Raptor2k 01-17-2007, 05:24 PM ^same. Idiotic SUV drivers everywhere I go.
I'm surprised the OP's guy isn't female.
Anyway, that sucks...good thing you're not hurt, that looked terrible.
Time for a new 8?
btw - I'm keeping my lights on all the time from now on. I've had too many close calls like that, and headlights seem to make people yielding into you more cautious.
Shit man, sorry to hear about it. There's not much more for me to say, and everyone's said everything already.
LabDad 01-17-2007, 07:27 PM If you watch carefully, or frame by frame, you can see that the guy never even looks left in my direction, despite the fat that i was honking at him for at least 4 seconds prior to impact.
Sorry to hear 'bout your car, hope you recover quickly. Just wondering when you started to brake. If you saw him there and was honking for 4 seconds prior to impact you should have been on the brakes already.
JeRKy 8 Owner 01-17-2007, 08:08 PM He already mentioned he bought a 2004 CTS-V if you bothered to read
