I wonder what is more important to those who browse the RX-8 Forum.

If you had to pick your major concern on your new car is it the style or speed.

If you could only pick one attribute what is more important to you??

Being We're unlikely to race cars in our sixties, style is more important. This car really caught our eye in a carshow, and it's a pleasure to drive (even on long trips).

If you could count the car having a rotary engine in it as "style" then I would say that I got it due to its style.

The initial attraction was the motor, and then once I actually saw the car I was sold.

Then when I drove it and figured out how well it handles, I was all smiles!

Simon. (a bit of a rotary nut)

I could not decide for about four months. I wanted a mid Range sport car fully loaded and take home under 40,000

I test drove and considered the following:

2003 and 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1
2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK230 Roadster
2003 BMW Z4 roadster 3.0i
2003 MINI Cooper S
2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Sedan
2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe Touring
2004 Nissan 350Z Roadster

I could not make up my mind until I asked myself that question. I answered style.

I picked the 2004 Nissan 350Z Roadster but wanted to try out
A new car just available in July called the RX-8.

I tested drove it and put money down that day. I'm still very happy!!!!

For my budget and needs....I'd have to say style. However, when I win the lotto, nobody will stop me from getting my Viper...(long shot for a 23 year old..)

Speed and handling here, style is an also ran. I actually like the looks of the WRX, but if were just going for looks it would not have been my first choice, though I don't know what would have been... Maybe an A4 or IS300.

The complete package is the major concert at this specific price point: speed+style+space+uniqueness etc.

if i had to pick one, performance definitely. styling kind of wears off after awhile. i mean cars that always caught my attention just a few years ago i don't even really notice anymore.

but i don't know why i would have to pick one, and styling does have some weight in the decision making process. for example, i would pick a 350z over an sti, obviously giving a lot of weight to styling. i think prestige has some weight too. one of the things that sort of bothers me about the sti and evo is the majority of people who see one will just think it's an econobox.

define style... do u mean exterior? or style like handling...

if u mean style as in exterior, ill choose speed because aftermarket kits can always be use to make the car look better. however, improving speed more $$$ and harder.

P.S. The rx-8 has both, wouldnt we all agree...:D

I'm not sure you can completely seperate the two. Style doesn't just mean the car looks good as some kind of abstract object - the style says something about the kind of car it is.

A car that looks as fast as the 8 has to have good performance, otherwise it's just pretentious (a "hairdresser's car" as we say in the UK).

OK ... style-wise I would have picked the 350Z but ....

The engineer in me made me go for the RX-8 .....

Different ... practical ... and handles like a dream ....

Performance-wise ... I don't think anyone could really tell the difference in everyday driving ....

well ....

Apart from the great linear torque and the fun of playing with the gears and the 9000 RPM etc etc

cant i have both? oh, wait a second, i do

anyways, for me itd have to be style, as long as its manual you can always make it feel fast (at least to the driver)

and it depends hugley on what kinda car it is, too
also it also depends grealy on whether or not were considering extremes also

Funny, you have already said you do not like the car. Remember this quote FROM YOU

"I'll warn you guys now, theres a snowballs chance in hell I'm going to like the RX-8 more than the Evo or the STI, but I really don't see them as being competitors, I think they appeal to a very different person. Dare I say, the RX-8 is going to be more appealing to females, and I think Mazda is trying to appeal to more females in general with their car line. I don't think Mitsubishi or Subaru could care less how many females like the STI or Evo."

So all rx 8 owners are woman? You really are succcchh a nice guy!

There are many fine suburu sites who would welcome you with open arms. Go there.

Damn Klegg... Give it a rest allready. Your constant thread disruption and stalking is getting quite rediculous. Leave Ike alone or he will have to get a restraining order on you.

Actually, We just happen to be post ing on the same threads. I will point out when people intentionally post inaccurate or misleading info. My way of trying to get this place back to what it was, a informative site to exchange info.

I think he is on a buisness trip, so I do not want to bash him while he is gone. I will say that there is a whole lot going on here that you do not know, as Ike and I have taken this private. I have encouraged this to keep the threads as clean as possible.

Since I began to point out some of his more obvious attempts to cause trouble, and givin him an outlet for his rants, his posts have improved.

I must point out that I am not the first to big issues with his behavior here. I just have taken the time to point it out.

Performance primarily, looks secondary. Probobly 80% weight on perfomance and 20% on looks.

I've done over a 1,000 miles in the last 3 weeks with my 6spd, 238 Hp, RX8 and been getting 21 mpg. My driving is a mix of city and freeway miles. I'm not a lead foot, but neither am I necessarily fast & furious, so I'd guess my results are representative.

I prefer style, but since I have been driving crappy cars for the last 7 years I would also appreciate a little speed. But definately style ;)

Actually I took it private since you would not stop harassing me and I was trying to ignore you and keep from hijacking posts. You started posting here at the end of August as far as I know, so are we trying to get back to what it was like 2 weeks ago??? If you want to make this an informative site, then start making informative posts and dedicating all your posts to exposing some imaginary hidden agenda I don't have. Furthermore, my threads are and have been clean, and you are clearly following me to every thread and making snide remarks trying to get me riled up. I also have not posted any misleading nor inaccurate information, at least not to my knowledge and certainly not on purpose if by chance I have.

It's natural that some have been bothered by some of my posts since I'm not in love with the 8 and will point out some of the things I feel Mazda could have done better. I spoke my word after the test drives and have tried to refrain from pointing out what I feel is the bad side of a great car because I realize it's all been said before. I do rather like the car and have said that many times, but I don't have blind faith in it or any cars abilities. I would appreciate if you would respond to my posts in a mature manner or not respond at all from now on, you're doing nothing but throwing posts off topic and trying to turn them into flame wars, something I am trying to avoid. When you constantly attack me, it makes it very difficult to not defend myself. I hope this will be the last thread that I will have to deal with you Klegg, as I really feel bad that the problem you have with me seems to be disrupting perfectly good threads, and I'm contributing to it by feeling the need to defend myself.

If you wish to keep bashing me feel free to keep sending me PMs, as this is the last time I will address you in the open forum on this particular issue. I will be deleting this post later if the thread keeps on topic, so the people that don't care about your issues with me can post in peace.

Regards,
Ike
