strakes are the two pieces that go across the fenders

Do a search for pics or go to multimedia/photogallery

From Webster's:

"strake
n. Nautical
A single continuous line of planking or metal plating extending on a vessel's hull from stem to stern."

Since the Rx-8 strakes are only 3" long, I'd say Mazda Marketing got a little carried away in naming that part. But it sure looks sweet.

I think they especially look sweet on the silver colour. BrotherVoodoo has that combo. Looks like the Mercedes SL500!

In the US I think they only come in polished, like the rotory emblems...

Thanks mmjames, I've always been a fan of the RX-8 in black (just check out my own personal alias icon)

;)

... but please, brothervoodoo, by no means should you take offense of my color choices! Thanks again for your additional pick links!

Maybe either one of you can PM me a link showing some pics of your trunk with the spare tire -- if it's still set up ...

I'd like to pick up a set of the brushed aluminum strakes, anyone have an idea where I can order them.....

They're a standard Mazda accessory -- any Mazda dealer can get them for you (MSRP $250 for 4 pieces). Trussville Mazda runs an online store with the best price I've seen anywhere: $195.

If your question was about brushed aluminum, as opposed to the polished (which is the Mazda product), I have no idea -- I've never seen brushed aluminum strakes advertised, as such. I've seen the polished strakes up-close, though, and they're not chrome-looking, like the "polished aluminum wheels" Mazda sells; definitely more of a brushed-finish look, to me.

Brothervoodoo - I can't really tell for sure from your pix, but it looks like you have polished rotary accent and brushed strakes? I would really appreciate it if you could add a close-up view of your strakes to your web site, so I can see for sure. If they are brushed, are you glad you went that way instead of polished?

I'd like to order strakes with my Mazda card, but I really want to see both sets on a Titanium first.

You know, as cool as they are it gets to me to pay almost $200 for 4 little pieces of metal...seems a little steep to me. But hey, almost all of the accessories run around $200 anyway...the Sales/Marketing folks at Mazda must have not been in a good mood that day. :)
