View Full Version : RX-8 Inventory per Mazda's Website
nowr2go 09-08-2003, 07:42 PM Does anyone know if the inventory link on Mazda's website is accurate. I checked for the availability of RX-8's within a 150 mile radius of where I live in Los Angeles. A total of 679 RX-8's are on inventory for sale per Mazda's website.
Does anyone know if the inventory search tool on the website is correct, and if so, what is your speculation of so many cars being available. Is there also a surplus in other areas?
mmjames 09-08-2003, 08:06 PM When I was deciding on what types of RX8s, I was looking for I did a couple of searches a dealer popped up in the search.
When I went there they had all the ones I was looking for. After I put money down on my car, and told them to hold it, I noticed my VIN disappeared with a day or so from the inventory web site.
Of course, I did not check them all, and I guess it depends on how often the dealer updates the record. In either case I say the site is pretty good!!

I believe the online inventory includes all vehicles allocated to the dealer that have not been sold, including the ones that have been assigned a VIN but have not even yet been built.
All those you seen listed are not sitting on lots waiting to be purchased. For example, there are two dealerships near where I live. One shows 9 RX-8's in inventory; but I know for a fact they only have 2 on the lot. The other shows 16 in stock, but only 4 are on the lot.
chinx 09-08-2003, 10:18 PM ...plus i do believe there're more cars allocated to socal than anywhere else. when i was home in LA this summer, right after the release of the car i went to 2 mazda dealers and they both had quite a few 8's on the lot, all available for delivery and not pre-sold. but when i came to maryland, where i go to school, just now and i went to a mazda dealer, they had only 1 token car there, and they sounded like they're not getting any for quite a while...
graphicguy 09-08-2003, 10:57 PM When I first started looking for an RX8, I used the Mazda website to locate what I was interested in with the local dealers. The inventory showed numerous RX8s available at each dealer. Every time I went to one of the dealers, that stock had been long gone.
The way it was explained to me, dealers have backlog, and inventory of sold cars listed. In other words, wnat they have pre-ordered, what is already sold and the stock they are expecting in is listed within a few weeks or a month period.
I got lucky. I got my winning blue because I happened to be at my dealership (checking on my pre-order) when the winning blue customer coudln't get financed. I bought it the same day. Otherwise, I'd still be waiting for my car.
I don't think the inventory website is being updated. I've performed the same search for 4 weeks with exactly the same results. Nothing has been added or deleted from the database in that time??

Yes, you're right. It looks like they only update the stock from the WEB site maybe once per month with the sold units. It also looks like they are only listing stock that either has arrived at the dealer, units that are on order, and units that are in transit. That's why I think people get the impression that there's a ton of stock, when there isn't.
