My friend just spoke with a Tein rep and he was told the RX-8's coilovers are going to be debuted at the October SEMA show. Should I wait for them or go with the HKS coilovers which are available right now? I've only used H&R coilovers before, but Tein and HKS both have good reputations. Any input is welcome, thanks!

 

i think it is a matter of choice in what you want out of your coilovers, hks i have read a lot about and are meant to be very very good coilovers, they are more geared towards the comfort line though in making your car handle better on the road but also have a suitible degree of comfort, this is what i have heard of course!
tein make really good products geared towards perfomance, but they may make your ride not as comfortable, that is what i have learned from usign tein coilovers, they are still my choice of the two mainly because i want somthing with more performance than somthing that is more comfortable,
i think i am going to go for the tein when they are released or maybe wait and see what JIC are thinking about, if anything at all! but i really like their products!

go with the tein's, especially if they are the type flex with edfc, very adjustable coilovers, and you can adjust the damping force from inside the car for better ride quality or performance.

 

At the recent D1GP event in SoCal I talked briefly with JIC and Tein Reps there and both have prototpe systems built and being tested, when these will actually come out is another question. The Tein rep did mention the SEMA show for the debut of their system and I belive he said it was a Flex, but not 100% on that.

Id imagine JIC is also working on an exhaust system too along with RS*R etc

If the flex's use the same dampning and th same shaft size as the wrx version.... save your money. I ran those and sure the edfc was cool, but the dampning was only on par for light street driving.

I'd do the top of the line JIC's, very fat shafts, great dampning, and worth every penny!!

JIC's will (should for the rx8) come in a few models, but the top of the line should be incredible, and dampning/height adjustable...... all based on what they have done for other cars in the past

 

I would wait til after sema in october because their will be tons of rx8 products released there

Ok, I just got the joke! BTW, SEMA is in November, NOT Oct, LOL. Hopefully the teins will be camber adjustable with sliding upper pillowball. The HKS are not camber adjustable.

 

You don't adjust camber with the upper shock mount on a double control arm suspension. The shock/coilover assembly isn't doen't determine suspension geometry.

Camber plates are for strut suspensions where the shock forms the upper suspension mounting point.

JIC's really aren't that great of quality. Not made in Japan,. There is much testimony on the net about issues with their product as well as service. Please beware. I think their warranty is only 90 DAYS.

If they make a mistake on valving and change up the dampers due to complaints you wil have to pay to swap them out a decent amount.

 

Hey all.. does anyone know the size of the rotors and how much each component weighs?

Their prices are fairly high.. (Almost 1,000 more than Brembo for their brake kit).. I am almost afraid to ask what their coilovers are going for..... though they do have a great reptuation....

Does anyone have pricing for their braking kit/coilovers? Ok.. thats 2 questions now.. I am done/reached my quota.

 

Pricing is on the website (not yet for RX-8, though). Looks like between $2k-3k for the coilovers. Also, they have a note on the braking systems and "other heavy duty items" - that the price includes a mandatory installation fee. If you wave the installation fee & service, they wave the warrantee. I wonder if coilovers are considered "heavy duty items?"

 

That is if you purchase them on the Endless USA website. Just like any other high end product if not installed by an authorized dealer it will void warranty. If you are in an unsupported area just call me so I can interview you and explain the procedures for installation. This is to protect us as well as our customers from potential gray market products.
