View Full Version : rx8 Noob Questions

I have two questions completely unrelated. First off, I'm still in the process of buying an rx8 and am looking at a few. What are some non-yellows people thoughts on the yellow? It seems like half the pictures I see the rx8s are really pale looking and the other half are slap-you-in-the-face yellow. Anyone see a yellow in person, what end of the spectrum is it on? Second question, is what Grand Touring options available on the 07s haven't seen around in the previous versions. I know there are different colors available, but was the Mazda advanced keyless entry and start system just put in?

keyless entry started in the 05 i believe and as for the yellows, they look great in person but i think they only made them in 04. not sure about the GT stuff but i assume yes.

I can see a yellow from the window right now. It definitely stands out, even in a crowded parking lot.

Mazda offered a paler yellow on the new models, no? I'm pretty sure there was a yellow (you're slap-you-in-the-face yellow) on the 1st few years, and now offer the pale "lightning yellow"?? You'll have to wait for the yellow owners to check in - or just take a look in the pics section. I am not a big fan of either. On any car. (except my pale yellow 78 ford f150 - RIP)

Keyless entry 06?!?

I have an 04 with Keyless entry.

as for the yellow:

theres 2 types: Slap-in-the-face yellow, and Pale yellow (Those are the official names)

I like the slap in the face one. I hate the pale one. But then again I like Attention.
I personally own a black one, but I dont mind the yellow. its hot.

The red is an awsome color as well.

But just for the record: No matter what you go with. youll be happy with the car. Guaranteed.

No I'm not going with an 07, there was just a good used yellow rx8 for sale around where I live. I had just seen different pictures where they yellow looked completely different, so I was wondering what people thought of it. Usually I tend to stay away from yellow because it looks pretty feminine. Swoope are there pictures of your car anywhere? That carputer mod sounds interesting.

Expo that's a beauty!

I went for winning blue because it shows up better in our fog than pearl or silver, and it does not seem to disturb the wild life and cattle as much as a red does, although it does seem to attract peacocks. It doesn't show dust as badly as the black, but it does show scratches especially on the side mirrors (white underbase). It is visable enough that other drivers look twice at it and seem to be far less apt to cross in front of it than my red car.
And personally it makes me feel like beaches and the California Coast where the boats are mostly blue and white - it just seems to belong.
Part of the choice is what color clothes do you wear - this is like the ultimate accessory!

Check out postings in the local club section of the main general topics menu
you should be able to find the nearest club in your area -

We only have a few 8s here and most are at San Louis Obispo - and those guys didn't sound very enthused about starting a SLO 8 club....
Look, we have SLO brewing, SLO kick boxing, SLO transit, so what's so wrong about a SLO 8? :hahano:

I think yellows are the only ones that will hold onto their resale a bit more than the others. Yellows are rare

More rare than black cherry Shinkas?

The first time I saw a yellow (the original, bright yellow), I was impressed, it looked better to me than it had in the pictures.

More rare, maybe not. Just as, yes. They only made yellows in MY04. Whereas the shinka's IIRC were made for 2 years..

Java, go to www.mazdausa.com to find the current color options and the details on what is included in the GT package.

Java, go to www.mazdausa.com to find the current color options and the details on what is included in the GT package.

I had asked about yellow (which is no longer offered) and the changes in the options provided in the GT package from 04 to 07. I don't quite understand what you're saying, because neither of those questions is answered on mazdausa.

the GT pkg pretty much stayed the same from '04 to '07, except I believe 6-disc CD changer is now standard equipment for '07 GT's.

I agree. Yellows are hot and rare, if you have the chance to get one defintley take advantage.

I just can't get my head around owning a yellow car. Always seemed like a more feminine color for cars to me. Anyways, I've heard a lot of people saying 04s have problems bc Mazda was getting the kinks out of the car. Would getting an 05 make that much of a difference or is it really in the 06s that you see improvements?

My Yellow early build (5/2003) has had very few problems during the 81,000 miles I have put on it. The only thing the newer ones have that is important is the A/C protection screen. But that can be added to the 04 & 05's
