RX-8 places 3rd in 2007 Consumer Reports Buyers Guide

Found it kind of entertaining that all i've heard is negative from these guys about the 8, yet somehow it manages to be 3rd on their list, right blow the STi. BUT wait wait wait...GTI is #1. wtf.

Interesting indeed...

Something is wrong here... where's the Corvette or any Porsche, Audi, Nissan, BMW, etc. What about the Miata or Sky or Soltice? And a Monte Carlo?? And then the new GTI that's too new to have ratings is #1??

Not only is the mix strange, but the choices seem random picks from those available.

Oh well, the 8 is #3, so obviously it an authentic and truthful ...er... ah...something

It's not random, if you get a hold of the mag and read how their point structure works, you'll see why those cars ranked their place. They look at stuff down to brakes, noise, tranny, etc and most of all, best bang for the buck. They are looking out for the consumer pockets.

I didn't write the guide...just got it in the mail. I know that it's listed under Sporty/Sports Cars.

The section under is is listed luxery sedans and so on. I don't have it on me because i'm at work, but I could probably look up the further catagories. There are PLENTY of those charts in there for all the different catagories...i just decided to show the only relavant ones to show the results compared to competitors.

The only one omitted that I questioned as well was the 350Z. I'm thinking the MS3 is listed under sedan/wagons.

I never really took these guys too serious when it came to cars, and was quite frankly, impressed with this report. To no surprise, it ties with the crossfire with the lowest rating of owner satisfaction. According to the small paragraph i didn't scan, fuel management is still a major concern....what a shock.

as if it needs reiterated, performance is but one section used to come to their conclusion for these ratings. This isn't road&track or car and driver here.

i love when the rx8 does well in comparos, but seriously guys, consumer reports? since when do they care about anything car related...

consumer reports are for people who know/ care nothing about cars. CS does reports on every type of product so when did they become pros at judging cars and telling the general public what THEY should spend their $ on. ppl live and breathe by that damn mag and i dont see why............

read their highs and lows about each car in the sports car category....the highs are always performance and lows are always fuel economy and stiff rides. and its the total opposite for sedans they love the fuel economy and soft ride but wish they were faster and handled better.

YOU

ALL

im not gonna take advice on which 30k car to buy from the same team who just did a write up on which toaster can cook your bread faster

anyone not taking those reports with a grain of salt is the reason why horrible cars *GM cough cough* are still in production. bc they listen to cunsumer reports give the monte carlo great grades bc of the low cost to buy one, ooops they forgot to tell u WHY they r on such huge discount, BC THEY R SHITTTTTTTTTTT

GTI MkV is a very nice car. It has an excellent powerband, intensely modulated by the PCM to give a supremely linear power delivery. It's not unlike our RX-8 in terms of personality. It is civilized and easy to live with and at the same time it can offer some real thrills.

If I'm not mistaken, the rear suspension geometry was designed by none other than the guys who designed the suspension on the Focus, which is one of the best handling FWD cars on the planet. I think VW poached the engineers from Ford.

If you pick one up with DSG, it can outrun a rookie-driven RX-8 in straight line acceleration.

Uh… no.

It's true that, once upon a time, CR used to be way off base with their testing of sports cars. (Mad Magazine even did a parody of a CR rating of, I think, a Formula One race car in the '70's. Very funny.) But over the last few years CR has changed the way they rate sports cars—today they rate 'em on how good they are as "real world" sports cars—not on how closely they resemble a Camry. CR loves the Miata and the RX-8 as well—and their comments on every sports car they've tested recently are right on the money.

People like CR because they don't accept advertising from car companies or anyone else. There are no ads in the magazine, so you never wonder if a review has been "colored" by the fact that there are huge Toyota and GM ads all over the place. And they don't accept "press" vehicles like everyone else—they just go out and buy the car like you would. No, they're not perfect—their articles are short, meat and potatoes no-nonsense writing, and for the average Joe—not the enthusiast who sits up at night obsessing about sports cars. But read their comments about the RX-8, the Miata, the Lotus Elise and others and see if you don't think they're spot on.

The Monte Carlo!?! They give it a 54—they think it sucks.

the 350z isn't on there because it's crap, have you driven one?

If you don't get the chance to drive one watch the Top Gear review

Actually, it's not there because Consumer Reports lists it as a "sports car", not a "sporty car".

The headline above the chart reads: "Sports/Sporty Cars"

You think the 350z is in a different class than the rx8, sti, and evo?

Okay...the Z isn't crap just because the RX-8 has 4 seats and a trunk.

wonder if I can get away with mentionig crossfire more than three times in this post. Cause the crossifre was mentioned earlier so I wanted to add crossfire as well and hopefully no mod will see it. Cause I don't want to get a violation for saying crossfire four times inconspicuously. There did it.
