Feras 12-04-2006, 02:17 PM wierd, if his hands were infront of him, he may not have drowned, still stupid as all hell.
abbid 12-04-2006, 02:17 PM How freaking hard is it to float? Just hold most of your breath and youll stay up. I dont get it!

youpey 12-04-2006, 02:32 PM its funny how they said it is impossible for him to escape from the car if cuffed, clearly it isnt...he escaped

Are you calling your mom fat?
tjbourgoyne 12-04-2006, 02:41 PM He could use his mouth to unlock the door / handle. Fingers to unlock the seatbelt, and agree about floating. Any novice swimmer should be able to float and kick to the shore.
Feras 12-04-2006, 02:48 PM im gonna tie my hands behind my back and jump into the pool tonight. Im curious as to whether the awkward position contributed to drowning.
Steakboy42 12-04-2006, 02:50 PM Are you calling your mom fat?
no, just saying she can float with no problems. She has pockets of fat called breasts.
And, I was on a swim team for a bit, and I still cannot float well.

So, if we don't hear from you tomorrow, can we assume that the awkward position did contribute to it?
Personally, he was drunk, and he dove off a 60 ft high bridge into the water below. I think the shock knocked him out and he drowned.

FastRX8 12-04-2006, 03:14 PM <devil's advocate>
Maybe he was too drunk to swim or escape, and the cop just enforced some good'ol street justice.
Then, when it ended bad, the cop said, "I don't know how he could have gotten out".

FastRX8 12-04-2006, 03:17 PM no, just saying she can float with no problems. She has pockets of fat called breasts.Dude, this is the wrong forum to be writing about your mother's breasts. :Eyecrazy:
They have forums for that I'm sure, but this ain't it. :hahano:

Clavius 12-04-2006, 03:26 PM Well depends if the officer actually handcuffed him properly. Years ago I got handcuffed (aint saying why long story ugh!) and the officer didnt cuff me properly. I found myself in the back of the cruiser able to slip my hand outa the cuffs, I decided to keep my hands in the cuffs though obviously lol.
Could be possible the cuffs were not on tight enough and the kid slid his thumb across his palm and slipped his hand out and got out that way. Note how they didnt state how the body was found just that he jumped. The kid most likely freaked out fearing his parents or who knows what and once realizing the officers mistake decided to flee.
toxin440 12-04-2006, 03:27 PM if he can float or not isnt the problem. The problem is he was a stupid ass who didn't obey the law, ran from cops, and due to his own idiocy.... died.
This is Darwinism at work - if the kid is this stupid now... imagine how he would be once he was old enough to buy guns?
I respect officers of the law and know to do what they say in a situation like that. If you cut loose and run away, you deserve whatever you get. Realize it or not the officers are trying to help the kid. What if instead of getting stopped by the cops, one mile down the road he ran head on into a family coming back from dinner and kills them all?
People that die doing stupid stuff dont get that much sympathy from me.
MadRonin 12-04-2006, 03:45 PM It's possible he landed on his back or head and died from the impact or was knocked unconsious. Sixty feet doesn't seem like much, but at that distance water is like concrete and it's enough to break bones or worse.

Not to mention it's pretty chilly here, and the water would have been even colder. It wouldn't have been hard for him to go into shock from the cold and drown too.

I was actually thinking the same thing. When we jump off of diving boards, houses, rocks, etc (whatever you are crazy enough to jump off of), we have the advantage of having our arms free to help us with balance. Even then we can mess up pretty bad. Try jumping 60 feet off of a bridge that you just jumped the handrail of and see how easy it is to stay perfectly upright going in feet first. I'll bet it's damn near impossible to do. Especially when the adrenaline is pumping and the alcohol is flowing. He probably landed wrong and knocked himself out. The impact from that height might kill you if you really messed up.
The strangest part is how did he get out of the car? The cop claims he was handcuffed with his hands behind him and seatbelted in. I don't doubt you could undo the seatbelt depending on how it was done. If was just an ordinary seatbelt and your hands were merely behind you rather than secured to something else behind you, it would be possible to get out. Then you get to the next problem. How did he open the door? It obviously was a door that could open from the inside. Many cop cars inner door handles do not work so this can't happen.
It seems obvious to me that he just was handcuffed, reached over a little bit and unbuckled himself. Then he turned his back towards the door and opened it with his hands still behind him. He runs out of the car in a drunken state, jumps the rail, loses his balance in the process and knocks himself out, drowning as a result. That seems plausible.
alnielsen 12-04-2006, 04:34 PM "The officer, following normal procedure, placed Rodriguez in the front passenger seat of the cruiser, Licklider said. The boy's hands were handcuffed behind his back, the seat belt was buckled and the doors were locked."
It looks like the officer is mistaken and he didn't do all these things. Like RG said, police cars have the locks and levers disconnected in the rear seat area. There is a cage to keep them there. Even if he did get out of the handcuffs he would be restricted to the rear of the car. Someone seems, on the surface, to have not followed proceedure and is now trying to CYA.

when i went for my diving certification they explained how floating isn't a universal trait for humans. it greatly depends on your physical makeup and density, so though you and another person may have the exact same height and weight, they might float like a tube and you'll sink just enough below the surface to drown.
as for a conclusion i agree with RG's last post, seems very plausible.
abbid 12-04-2006, 04:41 PM The only problem is that he wasnt in the back seat, he was in the front seat.
They were probably busy planting some herb in his car to notice he slipped away.

I didnt wanna be the one to say it lol
Also why the hell was he in the front seat? He should of been placed in the back, I smell wrongful death suit against the police officer and the department. I'm not one for them really but if the officer did what he was supposed to do and place him in the back he would still be alive. He was arrested for being drunk and driving without a lisence why was he left in the front seat?? A arrest like that should warrent being left in the back seat not the front.
Feras 12-04-2006, 05:04 PM ok it is in fact possible to swim around with your arms locked behind ya, i didnt die.
BigOLundh 12-04-2006, 05:42 PM i just read online about the cop forcing black suspects to rap. its being blown way out of proportion but is still hilarious.

Winfree 12-04-2006, 06:54 PM Temperature of water a big factor - death in aprx 45 minutes just from chill if water below 50 degrees if swimmer not conditioned, oiled, and well fed. Swiftness of current and depth a big factor especially after a 60 foot drop - would be hard on a high diver with hands free wearing a wet suit. Desire for life and will to live major factors.
As for Great Hoodini escape - if you got kids you know they can wiggle out of or into anything - and then probably get stuck!
CNN announced today another unwarrented police killing of two felons with incredible arrest records who had just committed a bloody robbery but were now peacefully playing a video game...
Also Larry King tonight will interview bride of the poor man shot while heading to his wedding but got shot leaving this strip joint. Her lawyer will also wave the banner of civil rights.
For those too young to remember, back in the 60's when we were supposed to lose the war VietNam, an anti police media game was played which called cops 'pigs' because it was easier to shoot someone called a pig than admit to shooting a police officer. It was all part of the anti government protest...
this is only the begining kids!
SoFL_RX8 12-04-2006, 10:16 PM All you gott do to get the cuffs in front of you is step over your hands, even easier to do when floating in water... I think this one is for the Darwin awards.
