COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

I have to agree.....a few days or a week in a hole with some serious thugs would have probably taught him and his buddies a better lesson. Now all the others know is that they want revenge. Their mindset has not changed because they are still teenagers, and being the mother of three teenage boys, facts speak, that the first thing that goes through their minds is revenge, which usually means eye for an eye. Luckily my three havent run across a situation where a buddy has died because of a misdeed. I know though that when they were younger, and less mature an eye for an eye would have meant anything goes...this is truly a shame.

A tad bit overkill for tossing egg's at a car but 'eh hopefully the community as a whole will realize that something is wrong with their kids and set 'em straight "You dont wanna end up like little Danny do you!" will be a tag line for the parents for a year or more.

Yeah, the guy is completely whack-o. Whupping the kid would've been more than enough. Then again the kid shares some blame too, there are just too many crazy people in the world and you never know who you'll piss off...very unfortunate.

I totally agree with you, rddragoness. I'm certainly not defending the kid - he and his friends were idioits. But, unless people are willing to personalize the situation and still have the same feeling, I think to say he "got what was coming to him" is beyond harsh. If it were your child or your kid brother or anyone you loved, I doubt you'd feel "he got what was coming to him". And if you do, I feel sorry for you.

I cannot believe u said a kid got what he deserved - that is horrible - u need to think about growing up and get a bit better perspective on life - if u want kids to die for making a mistake then u have issues - while no one would should ever condone this behavior, kids will make mistakes - this is what makes me afraid for my kids - some jackass throws a fucking tantrum cause his car got hit with an egg and kills a kid - there is no excuse for that and no one deserves it - the guy that killed that kid needs to be jailed. I do agree that, the thread title is a bit harsh. Not gonna agree that the man should of killed him/the kid should've died. But, just because they're kids, doesn't exclude the fact that there's all kinds of people out there. Meaning: people who react to stuff differently. Those kids shouldn't of been doing that in the first place. There are same dangerous people out there, and sadly, that kid found out the hard way.

My car has yet to be egged (knocks on wood), but it has been keyed on the hood and i've found gum on my hood (which is really f&#@ing stupid).

Alright, I will throw my 2 cents in.

First off I 1/2 wanna back up Davey - my car was egged 2 months ago, did $1K in damage, dont know who except it happend between the hours of midnight and 8am.

I will agree that the kid - is a stupid piece of shit, he didn't deserve to die, but this is a lesson to everyone that when you do stupid shit, you don't know who's going to fly off the handle and start blowing stuff up.

I personally would have just stopped, chased the kid down and put him in the hospital with a few hard punches and kicks. Am I wrong for saying I'd be the crap out of a 14 year old boy? who cares, because i probably wont ever be in that situation.

The sucky thing about kids today is that they never seem to have any lessons taught to them, I blame parents for total lack of dicipline or teaching children respect early on. Due to that, you have to beat it into them later and make them learn it the hard way. This story of the kid getting shot is the ultimate hard way to learn.

So make sure your kids know to never throw eggs :)

Reminds me of when I was in highschool and the friends of a cheerleader wrapped her house, her dad was a cop. Guy emptied a clip or 2 in the back of a car that was his daughters best friend. Sadly I think it just blew over and he was never punished, only in Texas right.

My car did get egged, I caught the kid who did it, took him to his parents, and let them handle the rest... And they were happy to pay to have it washed off, still left a nice big chip though, but its no worse than the rock chips on my front bumper and fenders.

Yeah okay, my bad. I don't agree with the OP either and it seems everyone has bashed him enough, so I went a little OT. I hope the kid's parents, who couldn't see him grow up to be an adult, get through it.

We have so much stuff available that life loses it's value. Eggs are food - Mom says back in the bad old days an egg might cost a whole dollar which was a man's wage for the day. Now they are so common punks can toss them at cars!
Guns are so cheap and common that people can use them to reduce the number of punks because vans are a rather expensive status symbol.

As for the kid getting what he deserved, I don't agree with that, the guy shouldn't have shot him. But there are also a lot of people saying the kid made one stupid mistake. I agree that this is the only one we heard about, but like toxin said, some people just don't learn. This could have been only one of many things this kid did.

A couple years ago I had three teenage boys living next to me that were complete a-holes. egging cars, shooting paintball guns and pellet guns at mine and my other neighbors houses...and the parents always siad "it couldn't have been our kids"

I'm pretty harsh when it comes to punishment but this is definitely over the top. No one deserves to die for throwing an egg at a car. If he threw a grenade at a car with the intent on killing someone that would have been different. This is a stupid egg.

If there is anything good that could possibly come out of a tragedy like this, hopefully it's a stern warning to other kids that what may seem to be even the most innocent practical joke can have serious repercussions in today's society. Of course no a snigle kid will end up learning anything from it. Think before you act. I used to do some really dumb stuff like that in high school too and the thought of getting killed over it never crossed my mind.
