First indication of future design
Mazda Motor Corporation today announced the global reveal of an all-new concept car, Nagare (pronounced na-gah-reh), at the Greater Los Angeles International Auto Show, during a press conference at 4:05 PM on November 29, 2006. Following on the heels of three very successful and exploratory Mazda design concepts – Kabura, Sassou and Senku – from last year’s show season, Nagare is the first indication of Mazda’s future design direction.

According to Mazda’s newly appointed global design director, Laurens van den Acker, Nagare sums up the future of Mazda design in one deceptively simple word -Flow. “Nagare is a celebration of proportions and surface language that will evolve into subsequent designs planned for presentation at future international autoshows. Nagare examines light and shadow, and begins to reveal the global design cues for the next generation of Mazda vehicles.”

Franz Von Holzhausen, Director of Design for Mazda North American Operations, who headed the Nagare design team in Irvine, Calif., describes Nagare as an entirely new and unique expression of Zoom-Zoom: “Inspired by the movement of nature’s elements, our designers have captured motion, energy and lightness and translated it into a beautiful language of lines and forms that are powerful yet effortless, provocative yet strikingly seductive.”

And there’s much more to come, too, as Mazda continues to evolve flow through future models. For now, Mazda enthusiasts can experience Nagare as an indication of Mazda Design’s confident step in a new direction.

Other vehicles on display at the Show include the recently launched Mazda CX-7 crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-9 three-row, seven-passenger SUV, which arrives in Mazda dealerships in early 2007, and the brilliantly designed MX-5 Miata Power Retractable Hard Top, along with the entire 2007 Mazda lineup.

I thought the same thing, but I didn't say anything because I thought I had gone back to the future again after pwning some n00bs and hitting 88mph the other day.

Nagare, or "flow" --

In Japanese, a different form of this verb using the same character (nagase), means "to flush," as in a toilet.

So if this car ends up looking anything like the Kabura, well, I think that is somehow fitting...

i was seeing the posted artwork as having the tail lamps lit up. im not saying it is the kabura, just looks like a side panel shot IMO.

I bet mazda just likes to trickle little things out that may or may not be real, true or otherwise just to watch the boards light up like it does. I bet it gets them off.

I bet it gets them off.

That my be good fun for them, but the only thing this type of 'maybe, perhaps, no, but almost, but not really' superior performance fluff dis-information does is get me pissed off at Mazda - Hear that Mazda??

They either should put up or shutup, produce a serious performance car or say no thanks, as this play of etherial Japanese word games is seriously boring.....

Sorry, I fixed my post I didn't know how to spell it.

Did not want to convey that at all. Besides, I never used that word.

there is this weird comment on comment i saw on autoblog(#4 http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/15/mazda-will-unveil-nagare-concept-in-l-a/) - hinting that people would think "nigger" when they see the name Nagare. i think if someone see that when they first see the word Nagare they have issues and need therapy. funny how they sneak around the word afraid to type it out but will dance around it.

It'd be nice if they can bring a Mazda 2 like that to NA. A small and cheap car doesnt equal boring styling like the Yaris, fit, etc...
