ok, here we go:
i am 14 years old and my parents said they'd buy me an RX-8 when i get my license. some may say that im spoiled but i dont give a poo. heres my problem, should i have my parents buy the RX-8 (AT) NOW and then when i turn 16 ill get it, OR wait until im 16 to get an RX-8 (most likely used. possibly new. either AT or MT)?
pros of getting it now would be that the car would be broken in (so i wouldnt have to do it myself), i dont have to go shopping for a car after i get my license and ill be able to drive it as soon as i get it. cons would be that it would be used, it would be automatic (which isnt TOO big of a deal), probably dented (parents rnt exactly awsome drivers), and it would smell like vietnamese food.
pros of getting the car when im 16 is that ill have a chance of getting a new one, it wont smell like vietnamese food, ill be able to get a MT, and maybe some other stuff. cons would be that i havent learned to drive MT yet, ill have to break it in myself, and maybe other blah.
either way, im confused as to what to do. plz help me decide.

note: either way i go, imma save up for a RE-Amemiya kit, clears, Rmagic spoiler, rotary shiftknob, white paint job, and rotary key (if i can get one somehow).

ps: if u know of anything happening in the USA about the age requirement for getting a drivers license, plz tell me. id like to find out if i have to wait longer to get a license or not.

Well first off, you are indeed spoiled. Second I know a few states are raising the learners permit to 17 or later I believe, at least thats the case in Georgia. Besides if you wait till your at least 16 Mazda might have this mess with the HP and mpg sorted out by then.

Get a job and get back to me in 3 years.

Wish I had your problem... I thought I have problems trying to keep people alive that are getting shot at... Why not wait there will be something else you may want by the time you are actually able to have a car. and thanks for the laugh.

This sounds exactly like a guy who used to post fake messages on Miata.net. The guy was actually a Miata.net regular who would occassionally create a new username and post humorous messages. Everyone got a big kick out of it. The regulars on the board could usually spot his posts. Usually he would never reply after the initial message. Even that Mr. Roboto name sounds familiar. I mean come on, not even a 14 year old is that stupid. Also, for being a poor speller, he got vietnamese correct twice.

Have a talk with your parents' insurance agent, and ask how much it would cost to add you to their policy with that car. Report back when you recover.

Tell them to Buy you one now, and Buy you another one when you can drive. Then Buy you a NSX when you've mastered the art of driving, (which I heard is about 2 weeks for most kids), then Buy you an Enzo when you've understand responsibility of owning a sport cars(which is about 10 days I think).

Good Luck !

NSX is outta my price range.

I love how people here are so fricken elitist.
-"RX-8 is perfect, to say otherwise means you're shouldn't even be here",
-"It's not about HP, it's about handling, and if you think otherwise, you're a loser and who shouldn't have a say in any of this"
-"You're 14, and getting an RX-8 from your parents, I won't even talk to YOU!"

Blah blah blah! Whine! Whine! Whine!

Now here's a kid who's lucky enough to be from a rich family. Now personally, I wouldn't give a child this car as his first car. But that's probably because I couldn't afford to give one to my child. If I were filthy rich, and my child was responsible enough, I don't see a problem with giving him/her and RX-8.

Seems that 90% of the posts I see here now are either people complaining (though some complaints are justified), or elists/jealous people who are immediately offended if someone dares think differently then the way they think. (You all know who you are!)

As for his spelling....I've noticed that foreigners (mostly Asians) have a faaaar better grasp of proper English spelling and grammar than most Americans. But I also notice that most of them resort to the shortcut spelling of everything when on the internet, or text-messaging though....

And I also agree with the Enzo being ass....
Style wise that is.....(functionally, it's superb...it better be for that price)
That Formula 1 nose cone tribute thing just doesn't do it for me.

The 2 most beautifuls cars for me are:
1) Lotus Elise S2
2) RX-7 3rd gen (but must have the normal spoiler)
and then there's the rest (mostly filled with supercars, etc)......

Actually, I was trying to defend you......

Seems that people like RX8Lover are pretty elitist....

From previous posts, he (and several others) seem to be the type where now that they bought the car, you are not allowed to make any bad remarks about the RX8.
Why not? Because it hurts their feelings to think that they might actually have made a bad decision. Not saying that they DID make a bad decision, but the possibility of it MUST NOT exist.

They need to constantly keep reaffirming themselves that they made the right choice. They're kind of like the muscle guys who keep body building, not for sport, not for health, not for the sheer joy of it, but because it makes them feel like they are better people. Of course they're usually the shallow, one-dimensional people, but they don't seem to see themselves that way......

If you are truly looking for advice, then my advice is wait. Who knows what cars will be out in two years. If the 8 is still your favorite once you get your license then go ahead and get it. I'm jealous, my first car was a geo metro and I was 20 when I bought it!

LiQuiDLaM

Mr.Roboto,

Here's my suggestion! Don't worry about getting the RX-8 now, it's waaay too early! Get that license and drive a beater for a bit! Get a standard if you could! Drive it for a year or so and if you think you still want the RX-8 when you're 16-17, then go ahead and buy it, none of us can stop you! But from experience, you'll really want a beater as your first car, and you'll understand why that is after and thank me ;) (but i knew a friend who's got a rich doctor father and drove a SLK and later purchased a BMW 330Ci)! Stats show one out of every five new drivers is involved in a crash during the first two years of driving! Unless your parents have interest in purchasing the RX-8 for themselves, i wouldn't buy it just yet! And in a few years, possibly more cool looking cars will be produced! To sum up, get a beat up stick-shift and gain some experience first! How's that for a non-flaming answer?!?

conclusion: ty ppl who helped me somehow. props to those who spent half their day trying to find a way to insult me. and i do believe i will wait to get a car. and i dont think i will be leaving this forum anytime soon. i like staring at pix of my fav car. almost as fun as staring at pix of hyolee (this relly cute krn singer). continue posting ur input if u wish, i check this forum every few min anyways.

I'm sooooo connnfuuuuused!

Would someone please tell me what the hell roboto is talking about? Damn son....don't you pay any attention in school? Even a 14 year old should be able to string together a few words into a comprehensible sentence, no matter where you're from.

First, I doubt very seriously your parents are going to buy you a car at 14. 2nd, even at 16 years old, I doubt they're going to buy you an RX8. 3rd, those I know who are of Vietnamese descent are very hardworking and conservative. If (BIG IF) you get any car in the next 2-3 years, you better think about it being something like a well used beater... like a 10 year old cavalier or something of that ilk.

Oh yeah, if people don't know what you're saying (typing) tell your parents it 's time for some remedial English classes.

i reconmend getting an at and something with less power. believe me if could save ur life. I know a kid like u that got an at celica and he crashed it and smashed it into a tree, throwing the car upside down and in half. he almost killed himself and his friend. I will never get my kids a fast car when they are that young, I dont care what you say that ur mature whatever... a car is a dangerous thing and you most likely will crash and if you crash you could kill/injure urself severely or others. I am 19 and I have an rx8 mt, and I believe I am more mature and glad I waited until now, cuz if I got this car when I was younger I most likely woulda killed myself in some stupid act

THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone is pulling your chains. Don't be so dense.

In the spirit of the post, here is my reply:

Tell your parents to buy it now. That way, you can tell all of your friends that you "own" an 8. After about 30 days of ownership, have your dad go out, get good and drunk, get the car up to around 100 mph, and then wrap it around a tree. It will save you the time when you get your license.

Disclaimer: tagS60 is JOKING!!! He does not condone drinking and driving in any way, nore does he condone wrapping $30K cars around trees. While he can't stand teenage drivers, he doesn't want any of them (or their fathers) to die. - The original poster has made up this teenager and this silly post as a joke.
- Jokes are funny
- My last post was attempting to point out that while some of you are taking this guys post seriously, he is just pulling your chain
- I made a joke in my last response
- The disclaimer in my last post was a joke (although apparently not very funny.)
- This post is part of the joke.
