hi there

hit 30K miles this week and have been slowly doing all my own 30K service items. I need to do my plugs this weekend but before I go home I need to pick them up from the local rotary shop down the road.


My question is - i was told you can use 1995 RX7 spark plugs on our RX8 without any problems? I'm not up to speed on what the term "how hot or cold the plugs are"

No turbo or supercharging (yet) here just need a new set of basic plugs that are guarenteed to work in our RX8 and not cost $1,000,000

I'd search these boards. You can get a set for $75-80 I believe. The leading and trailing plugs are different. You should be ok if you pay attention to the label on the plug as you take it out.

Just spend the cash and get the Iridium plugs, they aren't the $200+ the dealer wants.

get EQ's if you want platinum.

The RX-7 plugs work fine. They are NGK BUR-EQ7P leading and BUR-EQ9P trailing. The "P" in the suffix is what determines platinum or not. The 93-95 RX-7 plugs are "P". The earlier RX-7's are not. They are only $6 or $7 a piece. MUCH cheaper than RX-8 plugs!

whoop! coming from rotarygod - i will belive anything you say, id much rather spend $40 bucks on new plugs then 80 bucks.

Thats right. Just make sure to use anti-seize when putting em in..

not familier with anti-seize: did a google search and found some links. Is this something that i just put on the threads of the spark plug and the put it in? And is this something i could pickup at say.... Autozone?

Yep, they usually have it at the cashier, its like a dollar for a packet. Put it on the threads.

Anti-sieze is also available from Loctite, and is on their rack at the autoparts store. Tubes are pretty small, but you don't need a lot.

Rg if you are listening or anyone else for that matter that may have had some experience with this, yes the plugs will fit and run fine but after a little i did notice a rougher idle(before the newest flash), i was told by an excellant resource that the rx7 trailing plug firing point is a little shorter(not the plug but the spot where the spark actually occurs) and he was thinking that may be a part of this. Anyone notice this?

I actually remove the spacer washer from the plugs before I install them. Keep in mind I do this on 13B's. I've never done it on the Renesis so I don't know if there is a clearance difference. Maybe, maybe not.

There are many people running RX-7 plugs with no issues so I'm not too sure what yours is doing.

make sure you get two sevens and two 9s. i run 4 9s in the fd but its only recomended on modded cars as they wil foul eaiser...
