View Full Version : RX-8 Review at Pistonheads.com
73JPS 09-03-2003, 11:20 AM A quick review of the RX8 at Pistonheads.com. I like the pictures... since they are the pics of my car the first day I got it! :)

tribal azn2 09-03-2003, 11:53 AM does no one else see the irony of the rx8 being reviewed by a website called "piston heads"?

first thing to come to my mind....
Slickvic 09-23-2003, 11:28 AM Annoyingly you have to keep an eye on the oil level on a very regular basis. Rotary engines have never been good in oil consumption, and sadly neither is this. So, according to the owner's manual, every 500 miles, you have to open the bonnet and reach for the dipstick
What annoys me is when reporters whine about this!
mikeb 09-23-2003, 01:19 PM keeping an eye on my car is my pleasure

You guys are forgetting that Mazda wants to market/sell this car to a lot of people and Joe Public is not very keen on checking the oil level every 2 weeks.
Slickvic 09-23-2003, 01:39 PM You're right lude. I checked the oil every few weeks on my '82 RX-7 that I drove for 10 years. It's not any different than other habits like brushing your teeth or changing your socks. I just wish these guys wouldnt make such a big deal out of it.
You mean I have to put gas in this thing!?!?!?!?!?
Quick_lude 09-23-2003, 03:00 PM Haha.. yeah, I know, us car guys don't mind, we understand the importance of it. Heck my Prelude is in VTEC loves to consume oil so I already check it every 2 weeks at least.. along with my tire pressure and other fluid levels, etc. But as we know, a lot of people are the "put in gas and drive" kind of owners and they are in for a surprise with this engine. "huh? I need to check my wachhamakallit?" :D
mikeb 09-23-2003, 05:02 PM I'm gonna check the oil right NOW

the problem is, some of these weenies aren't used to brushing their teeth or changing their socks regularly so checking oil is a Real Big Deal. Rock on! ;) Now, gotta go check my oil. See ya!
Wouldn't it be nice if there were a gauge or something to check the oil for us?!?!?!?!?!
8_wannabe 09-28-2003, 11:38 AM Notice how the review just matter-of-factly says "the 1.3 litre rotary unit develops a useful 238bhp without forced induction devices like a turbo or a supercharger" without all the whining and drama of mentioning the restated hp from 250/247? This is how the rest of the world views this little flap: Not A Big Deal and not even worthy of mention! Now, if the rest of us could just get over it and admit we've got a quick, sporty, stylish little car...
If someone developed a fresh oil reservoir and an automatically metered top up, I'd go for it. Trouble is, it would need to be reasonably sophisticated to detect that the car is level, time the measurement after the engine has stopped etc, plus a "reserve low" indicator inside.
Want one???
RodsterinFL 09-29-2003, 12:14 PM heck, I thought them there side vents was fire vents when the oile is runnin low!!!

Lol, thats because its primarily a TVR centric website, small problems like missing HP matter little when your car never runs...
mikeb 09-30-2003, 04:11 PM lol good point
