Hello Rx8ers

I am seriously looking at the RX8, and I was wondering how much the RX8 is subject to sterotyping. I dont really speed, or drive like a jerk. But I am curious how sensitive I need to be to the police.

it won't get you any more harassment then any other car you buy. Just drive reasonably and you'll be fine.

To be 100% honest, I don't get nearly as much attention from cops as I thought I would before I bought the 8. I think it kind of blends in b/c of the lines of the car, also mine is black and that helps too.

On a side note: I love how the first 3 people to respond to this thread all drive black. Black is the fastest of all RX-8's so we know all about stuff like this...

I drive a TiGray with some very noticable body mods, and even with as much attention as my car gets driving around town I honestly dont get harrassed by police. I think its cause my car looks 'respectibly' fast instead of 'obnoxiously fast' like the ricers around here in MIA.
Lets put it this way, I feel less targeted in my car than a 'pimped out' Integra type-r or something of the like.
Like everyone said, dont speed (too much :P) and dont drive like a jack-hole and you'll be straight.
GL, have fun, and drive safe!

Dude, we all know red is the fastest. I've been tagged in my VR more than a few times, but thats because i was driving like a moron. Luckily i have good verbal skills and talked out of most.

Most recently 119 in a 65.....and all i got was a verbal warning!

and for you BS flaggers, i have it all on tape :P

That is great to hear! When I say I dont speed, I dont speed on any road that has a limit less than 65. And on the freeway drive the flow. This car seems to be looking good for me! Less to insure than a wrx, and less cop attention, woot, oh and all those little thing, like the interior and handling.

wow alot of people been asking about tickets recently lol. Just tried to help a guy in the top form. Basically If you drive fast in and out of traffic thats your fault and u will be pulled over for speeding and recless driving. thats 5 points. And trust me that wont come off. Im soon becomeing a state cop in MD withen the next yr. Just plz dont be like those little civics out there with there ricer attitudes and wonder why we pull them over for going 130 in a 55... then have the nerv to come to court with a lawyer. And self note to you, color doesn't matter. yes red, yellow, anything bright sticks out more. And if you planned on speeding dont bother with a radar detector cuz now we have laser. i hope this was also some what assistant to you. Gl and drive safe.

Yeah, when I 1st got my car (Yes, a black one... duuuh) I would be all paranoid of cops (naturally, for some reason) then after passing by front to front, side to side and all over cops and they just look right through me, it felt good. I seriously get no attention from cops at all. Im 21 years old, and my last car was Raced out Rice, and it would get Crazy attention. I guess now in my 8, cops see it more of a responsible adult car. I think they look out for rice more than style.
So unless you have limo tint and 22 inch spinners on your 8, you should be 100% safe.

I think a huge factor would def. be the color. I remember reading an article stating that red cars had the highest % of getting pulled over. I would imagine yellows might have a problem too. Personally I drive a green 8 so who KNOWS man, too many variables probably

Black 8 here, no tickets. The closest I came would be when I thought about speeding but didn't and around the corner was a trooper waiting.

I do have to say that I don't think other people think my car is as good looking as I do. The most looks I ever got in a car was when I drove my daughters car, the Zen Bucket, which was a Pontiac Sunfire J body car that would leave rust piles when you opened and closed the doors. I got a lot of looks from (stereotyping here) the Latin American community in my old neighborhood.

My old car was black on black civic..not "riced out" but super clean with limo tint and everything else....I never got harrassed in that car even if I was speeding! Now I own a yellow 8 and the cops are all over me!!! If I do something as small as not using my blinker or anything like that I get pulled over!

I was randomly pulled over and ticketed because an off duty cop supposedly saw me ran a stop sign and told another cop to pull me over...I can tell you now I didnt run any stop sign! Now I have to waste time fighting the ticket becuase stop sign violations are kinda costly and I didnt do anything wrong!!!

Theres a couple of things that factor in why cops watch me, for one its bright yellow, im an 18 year old kid that drives a 25,000 dallar car (that I pay for, not my parents!) and I live on kind of a bad part of town!!! but it doesnt matter I love my 8 and I love driving it!

AHAHA Hellz yea. 20 and pay for my own 8. When I told my parents I was getting one, they were like "You aren't serious are you?". My dad drivers a ford ranger :naughty: so I like to rub it in his face a little.

It depends on where you are. I live in West Lafayette, near the Purdue University campus (I go to Purdue for college). The last time a cop passed me, the passenger cop stared at my car until I was out of his sight (and that's when I was stopped at a stop sign). When I was at the other side of town (out of jurisdiction of campus cops), I was stopped at a traffic light, waiting for green. A cop drove by in the other lane, and I got one long stare from him.

All this while I kept wondering, "WHY ME?". There's a massive turbocharged truck next to me. There's also a riced out.... THING! I can't tell if they're glaring or just admiring the curves.

The only "riced out" bit of my car are my titanium gray wheels to match my titanium gray body. That, and a symphonic MazdaSpeed exhaust. I don't even have a freakin spoiler.

Campus cops love my car, and any other sports car zipping around. We don't call them cop magnets for nothing.

Sorry to say NYC cops LOVE to pick on cars, they thought that all ppl are jerks and just will pick on you whenever they have a chance.

I just got a no standing ticket yesterday, pisses me off, 95 bucks. I parked it nicely because its dangerous to double park to drop my GF off, so ok I park it nicely, drop my gf off, waving bye bye, then I duct down to my glove box to get some tissues, then when I got up this FUXKING traffic cop just pull his car up right next to me, Block my ass so I cant get away, and gave me a ticket said that I parked at no Standing Zone, I was like WTF ?

I was like, in NYC is legal to drop people off, then he gave me this bullshit like

"oh you cannot do that you stop at no standing zone u're getting this ticket, Hey Im just doing my job"

too bad I had no cameras that time so I cant take the pic where his fuxking car blocked my ass purposly and force this ticket on my ass.

fuxk up thing is, outa the whole block, all these people are *waiting in No Standing Zone*, I am the only one who got a ticket. WTF man

Damn I hate fuxking NYC traffic cops shitheads more and more, guess they have a quota to meet everyday or some shit.

They blend in very well and I've seen one pulled over. The lines of that car don't seem to attraction too much attention in traffic.

If you don't speed or drive like a jerk, cops can notice you all they want and can't ticket you...so what's your problem, again?

Well, to not speed is an issue, since the flow of traffic usually exceeds the posted speed limit. Driving like a jerk, changing lanes without ample warning, and other stupid things shouldn't be done anyway, so is not an issue.

tajabaho1

not an issue at all unless ur in LA

That's weird. I thought "no standing" meant you could stop to drop off or pick up a passenger. It's "no stopping" that means you can't even stop to do that.

^ It should be obvious: you have to roll by w/o stopping and the GF has to jump out and hit the ground running. aahhhh . . . funny mental image, that. lol. Fight that ticket NYG.

dothack - there's a simple solution for your Q about cops "staring" at you. Wave.

1 ticket. but i kinda deserved it. i was doing 95 in 55. i wasnt really looking at my speedo, and my gf had jsut called me that she was waiting for me at the metro stop. which was about an hour away. my gf is super pretty ;) and i didnt want her to hang out in a creepy place for too long. combine that, with i had just gotten the car, and it rides a LOT smoother than my previous car. i didnt really notice the speed. i thought i was doing about 70-75. which is the normal flow of traffic.

:( my mistake. i have no problem paying it, but i dont want the points.

I wish you could just pay the fine and be done with it, I would speed much more then. Officer pulls you over, swipe the credit card and you're on your way. but points costs too much.
