Be ready to pay for any sports/sporty car.

I'm 17. My dad pays $3,000 a year for me to be insured in my 8 for the premium insurance. Also, that's with 15% deduction. I got 10% off for driver's ed and 5% for good grades (straight A's and you have to supply your report card to the insurance company). I cannot imagine what a 350z would be like since the insurance company considers the 8 a 4 door.

So, I would say that it obviously depends on a lot of factors, but I live in the suburbs of Atlanta.

Also, never been in any accidents or had to contact the insurance company for any reason. No speeding tickets, nothing.

Well the 8 is cheaper to insure than other sports car because of the 4 doors. You should also look for multivehicle and multiproduct (ie home owner's insurance, boats, etc...)discounts if you're under your parents' insurance.

If you have to ask about the $$ of insurance maybe you shouldnt get the car.

What do you mean? Taking into account how much you'll be spending monthly on insurance is a good thing. If he's not buying the car with cash, then it's wise to consider how much more you'll be spending on top of your monthly payments. That's just sound financial planning. :P

Its going to be like a 4700 dollars a month. its hard to find insurance for teens. sorry man.

sorry to be a dick, but this question cant be answered by any of us here. Its just a shot in the dark, its up to you and your mom to call insurance companies and ask.

ive seen it range from 66 dollars a month to 350 a month.

Hope that helps.

Theres more than one way of getting insurance. This kind of help the insurance company will not tell you unless you bring em up. Stuff like u can get the insurance on you parents name and they can put you in as a weekend driver or a temp. driver for their car. The insurance will be waayyy low and it makes it look like its you parents car instead of yours. There are many ways to pay cheap for insurance but the best way is to find loopholes that make it less of a cost. And plus ur 17 which is almost the starting age of driving dont expect them to be cheap they will bring out alot of facts that make your insurance higher. Good Luck man we've all been through being young and paying alot for insurance.

Better financial planning would be buy a more affordable car. One where you know the insurance wont be outrageous. If someone really wants to know just call the insurance office and have them quote out the car. Seems alot easier than saying "Mom I read on the internet it was only 10 dollars a month"....... There are too many factors to compare when talking insurance. My coverages may be higher than yours, deductables can be more or less, other drivers in your house make a difference, as well as the other cars in your house. I can go on and on. If it is questionable if you can afford the insurance dont buy the car.

If you have say 3 licensed drivers and 2 cars then yes you can do a temp driver. If you have 3 drivers and 3 cars most insurance companies are not stupid they will not write it. Not to mention if you have a large claim and the research it and find he is the primary driver you can have alot more problems.

Well I think taking into account insurance costs as well as monthly payments is a good thing. If you can't afford both, then yes, don't purchase the car. My friend was thinking of getting an Eclipse. He could easily afford the monthly payments on the car alone but was too expensive when he took into account his monthly insurance premiums.
I agree that this forum isnt the best way to get a quote on insurance. Calling brokers would be a better way.
And sound financial planning isn't always about buying the cheapest thing...it's about what you can afford on your budget.

Asking other high school and college aged students about their insurance rates doesn't seem like a bad idea to me... If he is buying the car solely based on this information then I agree it'd be a dumb idea. Lets at least give him the benefit of the doubt and not assume he is making all his decisions based on this thread.

I just got quoted for $2,000 a year for a '04 350Z, no tickets or wrecks. 20yrs old.

I paid $3,000 a year in high school when I had a '89 Vette. I guess they see the Vette as more of a liabilty then a 350Z.

1080 for 2 cars a year...no wrecks no tickets...26 year old though.

I was quoted 700 to 3800 dollors just for the RX8. So make sure to check around for the best price
