View Full Version : Name some of your favorite RPGs
No More Oldsmobiles 10-27-2006, 04:17 PM Anyone have any favorite RPGs to recommend? 7VR (http://www.defense-update.com/products/r/rpg.htm) looks pretty cool. Type 69 (http://www.sinodefence.com/army/individual/type69rpg.asp) has possibilities, but I don't think they've released it in the U.S. yet.
Romeo 10-27-2006, 04:19 PM Zelda 64
Clavius 10-27-2006, 04:37 PM Final Fantasy Tactics Pwns all!! Playstations greatest (next to a few others I know)!!
dillsrotary 10-27-2006, 04:38 PM U.S version on final fantasy 3 for super nintendo, probably one of my favorite games ever.
chrono trigger is a close 2nd.
HolyCross05 10-27-2006, 04:57 PM FF7 for the Playstation is in my top 3 greatest video games (behind Starcarft and Warcraft 3). The graphics, animation, story, replay value, and replayability were all ahead of its time. This game definitely the set the standard for all RPG's.
NoTears316 10-27-2006, 05:44 PM Leisure Suit Larry
spork 10-27-2006, 05:54 PM Final Fantasy Tactics Pwns all!! Playstations greatest (next to a few others I know)!!
FFTactics isn't a RPG... It's a turn based strategy game. :)
and Leisure Suit Larry is an "adventure" game.
Hmmm... I liked so many RPGs...
Ultima III-V.
Might and Magic 2 & 3
Bard's Tale II
Chrono Trigger.
Final Fantasy II (IV in US)

Dark Ages of Camelot back before all the expansions was by far the most fun I've ever had playing a game. It also ate up countless hours of my life that I'll never get back... :(

Before the original Archer nerf that game kicked ass.
RENESIS_NEENJA 10-27-2006, 10:45 PM Haha NMO has done it again...
Well... I actually don't know anything about Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers so I can't help you there... but role playing games, eh anything with "Final Fantasy in the title is typically worth playing, Legend on Dragoon, Xenogears (i've been meaning to play the Xenosaga series), Elder Scrolls Oblivion if ya like the open ended type, Star Wars KOTOR was pretty kick ass too, Suikoden II & III, Zelda The Ocarina of Time..

handgimp 10-28-2006, 08:44 AM On the topic games vice weapons, I'm sad to see nobody suggesting Planescape: Torment. Best game ever.
Smoke Honda 10-28-2006, 10:43 AM anyone ever play the original xenogears for the original playstation? great game. squaresoft made it too.

I thought FF12 wasn't out yet.... I pre-ordered and the official release date is 10/31. I really haven't had any time to play games this year, but I will MAKE time for FF! :p
And just for the record, SNES Zelda >>>> Zelda 64.

Smoke Honda 10-30-2006, 08:14 PM Haha......How the hell you playin XII already!? Jeebus, 140 hours on Xenogears,
It isn't the 140 hours that was shocking. It was the ass shot of the main character for the ending that I didn't appreciate at all  .
playdoh43 10-30-2006, 08:17 PM final fantasy 12 has been leaked for weeks on p2p. google "swap magic" i just beat it last night. its my favorite FF so far because theres no corny love story etc. its by the team that did ff tactics, so its all about political manuvering and back stabbing. good grown up story.

t-run/8 10-30-2006, 08:36 PM FF-X, Zelda 64(ocarina, not crappy majora mask)
playdoh43 10-30-2006, 08:53 PM get ready to do some serious leveling up with FF12, that game is hard. due to a lack of time I ran 2 ARMAX cheats that gave me infinite LP and gils. with my powered up chars, at the time I beat the game I logged about 55 hours... and i didnt do a single side quest. granted, 5 - 10 of those hours are idle time where I left my ps2 running and did other stuff. playing through just the main quest normally should easily take 50-60 hours,
the good news is theres plot twists and complex character development waiting for you around every corner. my favorite part is that theres not really a easily defined good vs evil or right vs wrong conflict in the game.

I'd to say, you're the worst Final Fantasy fan ever. Not only do you bootleg the game, you leave it on for hours on end, and to top it off you cheat? LOL

Bwahaha! but seriously 140 is pretty crazy...lol :mdrmed:

yeah, i probably am. :crying:
playdoh43 10-31-2006, 12:06 PM my cheating days started with FF2 when Instead of playing the game normally I beat the crap out of my own characters repeatedly with attack and black magic.
playdoh43 10-31-2006, 12:10 PM Bwahaha! but seriously 140 is pretty crazy...lol :mdrmed:
right....how do you end up with 140 hours in the game? my save file in the game is around 70-75 hours, and I did everything possible in the game, got all the items and gears parts. my xenogears was so powerful by that point that 1 charge was all it took for it to recover 9999hp. i cant imagine what else could be left to do in the game for another 70 hours lol.
i can imagine 140 hour in a game like disgaea, hard to imagine the same for xenogears. the only game ive ever spent that much time on was starcraft where I missed dozens of classes and lectures back in highschool because of it :(

Hey, I shit you not. It was 140 hours, I wasn't trying hard to get every part but I had to pause and read the gamefaq back then on a dialup connect to aol, you know how it is.
playdoh43 10-31-2006, 12:39 PM yeah i hear ya , thats one game that you definetly need a faq for, the boss battles were rediclously hard, and you cant really level up your gears... the last dungeon was close to impossible without a faq too.
RENESIS_NEENJA 10-31-2006, 01:02 PM the good news is theres plot twists and complex character development waiting for you around every corner.
In some reviews I've read, they keep mentioning the lack of any real character development for the main cast, and how their really isn't anything close to a "main" character... bah, I guess I just need to go buy the damn game when I get off of work :cwm27:
RENESIS_NEENJA 10-31-2006, 01:04 PM Didn't they remove alot of stuff from the US version of Xenogears!? My friends used to ramble for hours about it... I never really listened to him though. I was pretty young when I played through, but I do remember thinking that not everything came together right...

yeah, there is no main char... this game is excecuted in the same way FFIII/VI was... where everyone has their own story and struggles and the game unfolds in a way that is plot centric instead of character centric. The characters them selves revolves around the plot instead of the plot revolving around the characters. I am a huge FFIII/VI fan, so this is really good for me. The story is really more about a WAR as opposed to about a particular character. but imo theres still a lot of complex character development with each character having their own reason to remain part of the group as opposed to just to fight evil and save the world kind of thing.

I probably spent several thousand hours playing Starcraft online. I became untouchable at that game racking up thousands of wins with less than 50 losses.
playdoh43 10-31-2006, 01:28 PM you sound like a BGH player lol... i used to be pretty good, reaching 1400 in ladder back in season 1 and 2... then I convered to BGH but my ratio fell to like around 66% wins vs 33% losses, when you end up with crappy partners by the luck of draw it dosnt matter how good you are :(.. by then the korean players were systematically pwning me in ladder lol. i think i had about 1500 wins to 500-600 losses by the time i quit.
you cant mess with Koreans in online games hehe
icyur2 10-31-2006, 01:28 PM Fallout series (tactics included)..

I find my self really enjoying the graphics, taking my time to stroll through the locations admiring the architectures and the local tradition/culture in clothing.

Word! Me too. Everything seems so fresh, if that makes any sense... the new battle system seems like a nice change of pace, being able to have control over the camera is nice as well. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like having complete control over your characters growth, (ya know typically it's Cloud=fighter/all arounder, Aeris=Healer/Mage, and that is pretty much what their the best at...period) but after playing around with it, it's great!
Aero8 11-02-2006, 11:22 AM I've been a fan of all the FF series I have played (VI-X2)
FFVIII and FFX were my favorites
I also liked Start Ocean: Till the End of Time
Can't wait till I have the money for FFXII...stupid tuition

BGH was the by far the best map. It was fun camping as terran and owning with BC's. Yea the Koreans are crazy but I can remember owning a couple back in the day. No one played as much during the 56k era but now you don't even have to wait a second for a game in Warcraft 3.
I haven't played in years, but what a great game...
6speedRenesis 11-02-2006, 12:18 PM Not quite an RPG, but it has the same Affects
