View Full Version : Release date hint?
jdj1971 10-16-2002, 11:15 PM This is an excerpt from a mazda press release concerning the RX-8 thats in X-Men 2.
"Mazda Motor Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox are teaming up on the production, which will premiere on May 2, 2003 – just months before the RX-8 sports car is expected to hit Mazda showrooms across the country."

So is this a hint we may be looking at a mid/late summer release?
I wasn't going to go see that movie, but now I have to!
takinawhile 10-17-2002, 12:18 AM The mazdausa webpage now says summer of 2003. I would imagine that thats the accurate date.
tribal azn 10-17-2002, 12:22 AM OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. WHY THEY KEEP PUSHING THE DATE BACK:mad:
Hercules 10-17-2002, 01:00 AM I'm glad in a way... lets me secure a job before jumping into the car.
I know I'll be able to afford it but this buys me some time :)
Elara 10-17-2002, 07:25 AM I hate to say it, but I'd also kinda prefer a summer release date- we've got to get a house by May, and I cannot think of anyway I can do both at the same time- June would be a PERFECT release date for me.
red_base 95 10-17-2002, 08:57 AM I was hoping for an earlier release in mid-April. The quote above mentions "just months" which may mean pushing out to July or August.
I am wondering why it is taking so long to bring this car to market?

Who knows.. I just hope I'm in for a big suprise.
pelucidor 10-17-2002, 01:11 PM I was going to buy the 8 in Aug/Sept - which I thought would be 5-6 months after it went on sale and all the hype (i.e. waiting lists and inflated prices) was over. Looks like I may have to join a waiting list after all and pay MSRP at this rate.
Donny Boy 10-17-2002, 04:46 PM X-MEN, how 'bout a license plate that reads RX MAN 8. . . no, doesn't work.
Red Devil 10-17-2002, 10:42 PM Mazda's killin' me. The more these rumors fly around, and the more the release date is pushed back, the more I'm finding myself looking at, and considering, other cars.
Mazda, if you're listening give us all something more concrete than rumors to rely on.

Just put in your mind earliest May 2003. Hopefully you will be vested into the RX-8 by that point and if there's any delay over that... you won't mind waiting :D
bwayout 10-18-2002, 11:31 AM I hope my 1990 probe will last that long without anything major problems.
I was also hoping to wait a little bit of time so I could try to get it under MSRP too ...
khoney 10-18-2002, 07:12 PM Damn - one more San Antonio summer in an RX-7 with busted A/C :(

My flywheel just became detached from the ring gear (!) making the car impossible to start. While replacing that, the clutch looks to be toast, so a new one goes in. My rear tires are bald, new ones at the same time as all the above go on. In doing so, they notice my rear brakes are shot... and my muffler has a hole... need I go on?
Long story short, I think Mazda needs to delay the RX-8, oh, about 4 more years until I can pay for the repairs to my current car. Either that, or tell Mazda dealers to give ridiculously high trade-in values for 93 Asuna's.

Hmmm, I am gonna want to get it the moment it comes out... but can't REALLY afford it before June/July... so that's not so bad... I was hoping to delay a few months to make sure there are no major problems though....
We'll see!

I don't think Mazda can SURVIVE there being problems with the 8. They will be working on everything they possibly can to make sure this car rules. That's why I want it :)

Hey Grimmy, too bad this didn't happen to you "suner". I just sold my '93 Sunfire a couple months ago: u cud have had it for a price that might only have been a bit more than u spent getting yours fixed! Mine had nu tires, recent muffler, gud brakes... all the things you needed, As sun as u needed them!:p
