View Full Version : 380WHP SFR turbo RX-8 in Hong Kong
SpeedForceRacing 10-25-2006, 11:10 PM One of our customers sent me over Caz Buyer magazine with his RX-8 in it.It has an upgraded (bigger turbo and intercooler)SFR turbo system and some other stuff done to it.He generated 380ps.The magazine is written in Chinese so good luck reading it. It does mention us and various parts of the kit in English though :) Here is the link to it:

unreal89 10-25-2006, 11:18 PM Wow, very nice. I would definately buy your kit if I had the money. Congratulations on another successful SFR kitted rx8. They aren't as common as I thought they would be when the kit came out initially. I notice they mention the Emanage Ultimate, I guess its working well for them sine its pushing 380ps.
Renesis_8 10-25-2006, 11:21 PM Must have well over 400HP at the crank!, so the renesis is capable!

nycgps 10-25-2006, 11:30 PM ^^ what he said is so true. They have a VERY VERY strict rules in HK against automobiles modifications. If they see something funny, they pull u over, no questions asked. and go have ur car check.
and let me translate this :
First page :
Small Boost, Big Explosion
100+ HP Up
Second page :
Whole set of SFT Turbo Kit including a very large T-4 Turbine, 46mm Wastegate, Front mount Intercooler and more.
Explosive Rotary Engine , 380ps Turbo Rx-8
Mazda RX-8's charm came from a high compression ratio NA 13-B MSP Rotary engine, its been out for 3 years, newer and better modification method has been found in both USA and Japan, NOS system, Turbo kit and SuperCharger kit and more. But only Turbo kit can give you the most explosive performance level. To be able to release RX-8's highest horsepower, KC Racing created a 380ps Turbo Rx-8. Exclusively for everybody.
Page 3 :
Mazda Rx-8 debut in 2003, with Mazda's exclusive Rotary engine technology, along with a 9,000 rpm high rev 13B-MSP N/A engine. with up to 250ps@8500rpm, and 22.0kgm@5500rpm torque.
In the April of 2003 Rx-8 came to the market, to take over RX-7's place, Mazda re-design a very smooth Sport car chassis, instead of 2 doors the rx-8 comes with 4 doors and 4 seats. On the Engine side of things, due to Japan's air pollution regulations, the old 13B turbo Rotary engine cannot make it thru the new emission standards. Mazda has to redesign a 1.3L 13B-MSP N/A engine for the Rx-8
Too lazy to do the rest ! Ahh you can get the idea :P
Red Devil 10-26-2006, 08:29 AM Thanks for the translation, ny.
Wonder how much boost and how many miles he's put on that engine.
MadDog 10-26-2006, 08:43 AM Haha WTF! The dude looks like he's gettin pulled over on page 8. :yelrotflm
Renesis_8 10-26-2006, 11:38 AM It says 0.3 bar in the article, how much is that in psi? does that sound right?

shawn81 10-26-2006, 12:07 PM .3 should be 4.35 PSI
here is the linkP- Conversion (http://www.lenntech.com/unit-conversion-calculator/pressure.htm?gclid=CP3lsuWcl4gCFS4bGgodAVo8-A)
but that would be next to nothing... well a big turbo like that will move alot more air even at that PSI
SpeedForceRacing 10-26-2006, 12:50 PM I think he ran 9 psi to generate the power. He says that he needs to do som more tuning in the email he sent me.But this car is going to be road raced. That was their main objective with the car.
guitarjunkie28 10-26-2006, 01:04 PM 380 hp @ 9psi?
what size turbo was that again?

A full T4 60-1. I cant release the specs on the turbine trim and hotside though.
LiL BenNy 10-26-2006, 07:47 PM hehe chinese people crack me up!
guitarjunkie28 10-31-2006, 06:34 PM A full T4 60-1. I cant release the specs on the turbine trim and hotside though.
380 @ 9psi doesn't sound a little TOO optimistic from a 60-1 to you? even if it had the highest flowing q-trim available (which i'm sure it doesn't).
XDEEDUBBX 10-31-2006, 06:53 PM nice..that car looks great as well..

I believe they're estimating 380 bhp.
guitarjunkie28 10-31-2006, 08:18 PM I believe they're estimating 380 bhp.
still...
still...
If you use Mazda math that's about 270whp ;)

We made 327WHP @ 9psi
http://www.speedforceracing.com/images/products/mazda/rx8/tubokit/rx8_1_6.jpg
with a 57trim comp wheel, smaller turbine wheel, smaller turbine housing and a smaller intercooler.380WHP is a bit of a stretch but I can tell you the 60-1 is a larger wheel then the 57 and we also went with a larger hotside and turbine trim for this set-up as well as a much larger Spearco intercooler so I think it is possible but we can not confirm this since we wont have the ability to dyno this car here in the states. Also tuning plays a key rols and this car was tuned on a higheroctane fuel then the 91 octane we used so that means they can be much more agreessive with the ignition timing and still keep it safe.

guitarjunkie28 11-01-2006, 07:21 PM so you made 326 whp...not flywheel, but wheel horsepower at 9psi? you'd be somewhere in the low 60's and borderline off the compressor map.
awesome if it's the truth, but i'd have to see it to believe it.

I put a link to the dyno chart in my previous post. This was done at the Dyno Shop in Santee on a Dyno Dynamics. There is no surging or any other issues with the 57.
guitarjunkie28 11-02-2006, 03:54 PM i have no doubt it made the power, just at that boost level, it seems optimistic.
ghlisa 11-03-2006, 01:36 PM :bsmeter:
That guy in HK is talking BS. In the mag is talking about 380bhp and not 380whp, but, even in a 380bhp is impossible to make it without a fuel system upgrade and a 3" true exhuast. You can see clearly on the magazine, he is only used a 2" exhaust and with the HK emissions law, he is obligatory used a catalizer, so this guy talking he doing 380bhp is all :bsflag:
And also he's talking made 380bhp at 0.3bar???? WTF??? I think that mag is for ricers or maybe they think all of THEM is a completely foolish!!
snowrydr01 11-03-2006, 01:44 PM Its impossible to put down 100WHP in Hong Kong without a cop on you haha...
Last time i was there i got off the ferry and there was Masserati and a bmw 7series doing well over 100mph downa crowded street in Kowloon
silverwolf 11-03-2006, 02:23 PM and suddenly from out of the blue we have 335 on a conservative tuen with the sparks as the only thing to stop it....
this 380 has been beaten.
guitarjunkie28 11-03-2006, 03:37 PM i wasn't knocking this kit at all. i'm sure it works great, but the #'s just seem a little TOO optimistic.
since when does a turbo rotary have a bsfc of .5 or less? that's one for the record books!
Renesis_8 11-03-2006, 05:52 PM The magazine states 380ps not WHP, and also he has upgraded the injectors, 4 550cc, Walboro 255L/h fuel pump, no info on the exhaust.

MrWigggles 11-04-2006, 10:27 AM Does the article say 380ps at 0.3psi or not?
Also 380ps is about 375hp. Ps is just German horsepower, it doesn't indicate whether it is wheel or brake. They probably mean brake (i.e. engine). Regardless, the guy is just guessing in the article.
Anyway, the title of this thread shouldn't be "380WHP" because it isn't accurate.
