PoLaK 10-16-2002, 10:09 PM look like they updated it
SPDFRK 10-16-2002, 10:39 PM Yeah thanks to Mazda for taking the time to change your site and provide more misleading information and outdated pictures. It is now saying "targeted 250hp" and has pics of a drilled and vented rotor from the old concept. We know you have the final car by now and if you don't your in trouble because you are gonna have at least the thousand or so people on here pissed off if this car doesn't get released sometime in the first part of 2003. I was happy with the old site and actually liked it more, they could have just added a pic of the hood open or a shot of the trunk with a seat folded down and I would have been giddy. But instead they change it all around and add a crappy 360 degree view (wooo... thats innovative) with no new info. As you can tell I'm really getting aggravated so if they aren't gonna give us info they had better shock the shit out of me when they show the production version in Detroit. Deep breaths, deep breaths, count to ten...
rx8-zoom 10-16-2002, 11:04 PM I hope they rounded down 500 rpms when they say redline at 8500, and guestimated the release date to be summer 2003 give or take a few months
Although i did like the video of the 8 showin off its handling... even if it was under 1 second long
Jerome81 10-17-2002, 04:14 AM I don't think it said redline at 8500, I think they were talking about peak output.
I'm sure Mazda is planning on the 250hp, though they don't want to pull another Miata fiasco by overstating it, only to have it not quite deliver. Hopefully they will deliver on their promise.
Is there anything new here? The side shot of the red car with the open doors with the monocolor interior looks slightly different from teh yellow car. They had the previous RX-8 concept, but I think the one i'm talking about is an even newer than yellow car.
I'll try to post what I'm talkinga bout and see if there are any noticable changes....
Okay here we go.
http://www.mazdausa.com/rx8/gallery/photos/photo14_download.jpg
http://www.mazdausa.com/rx8/gallery/photos/photo1_download.jpg
It looks to me like the sides of the seats are some kind of plastic now, there is DEFINITELY a sunroof, and I think the taillamps seem to be less Altezzay. Anything else?
Hercules 10-17-2002, 12:18 PM Tail lamps look similar to me...
Grimace 10-17-2002, 07:29 PM Guess we won't be getting fold-down rear seats. Check out the braces behind them:
http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=11328
Looks like there is room between the braces for a pass-through. There have been other pictures pointing out that there is something that looks like a door between the rear seats that leads to the trunk. I think that will be the case now.
PoLaK 10-17-2002, 08:26 PM not 100% grim the could just b something u c wehn u look in the trunk there is still space for stuff to pass though (either way ill take safty over fold down rear seats.)
Hercules 10-17-2002, 09:35 PM The main reason I want a back seat is because I want a place to throw my coat and stuff without having to go to the trunk.
That's why I'd be fine with a coupe, I'd just prefer four doors because it's more utilitarian.

I don't really want to rant about this again, but I can't stop myself:-
MazdaUSA.com is optimized for Internet Explorer versions 4.x and 5.x and Netscape 4.x.
To experience the most from this site you can download Internet Explorer or Netscape.
MAZDA, will you crowbar this into your cranium... "Optimized for", does not mean "Only works with".... FOR GOD's SAKE... put an "Enter anyway" button on there.
I'm running Mozilla 1.2 for goodness sake... It's got to be so much more standard than Netscape 4.7 it's just not funny. If my bank can put an "Enter anyway" button on their E-Banking site... then you KNOW that Mazda can.

Hehe... You must join the darkside and use IE :D

I'm glad I don't have the option... I couldn't deal with loosing tabs!... tab'd browsing is about the best thing ever to hit web browsing.
Actually I edited the source code to change the ID string and recompiled it... I figured out why they wanted to keep people out... their javascript is pretty poor...
RX-pecting 10-17-2002, 09:48 PM 1. Side sill changed, there are two metallic tones (where the imprint of the rotor should be and elsewhere)
2. Side scoops now have some black plastic rim around them to give thw whole thing a toy-ish look (which matches the exhaust area, and which i like alot):D
3. Side of the doors are now interior coloured insdead of bare-naked, body color metal (not really sure about this one, it's kinda an angle issue...)
4. More ample door-locking mechanisms...
ps you sure seats are single tone here? i can't really see the seats
oh yeah, F$%^N AWESOME!!! Everyone was woried safety issues might impede on the possibility of a sunroof in a no-B-pillar car, I guess engineers @ Mazda did it again!!! (err, that is if the car doesn't crumple like a 2nd hand accordeon @ 17mph impact...);)
RX-pecting 10-17-2002, 09:48 PM (I like find-the-difference games!!!)
khoney 10-17-2002, 09:57 PM I see their updated site is still mentioning a two-tone interior color scheme. Here's still hoping for multichromatic leather!

I'll pray with you for that one :)
kalahari 10-18-2002, 03:50 AM How many people have emailed Mazda about this? If we all do so, perhaps they will change it for us.

curtlo707 10-20-2002, 07:02 PM if you click on the "performance" section of the flash site, it plays the sound of a revving engine. I was wondering if that could potentially be the renesis or even a rotary engine for that matter. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I've not listened... since their site won't let me in... but I doubt it.... the sound of a rotary is pretty distinctive and mazda probably don't want to confirm what the renesis sounds like just yet.
Edit: - Infact they probably havent finalised exactly what the RX-8 will sound like... minor adjustments to the pipes could make a big difference..

I wouldn't discount it either, because Mazda has already said that you'll be in for a suprise in the sound of the car, so hopefully we will be.
The sound on the site was pretty appealing to me :)

Go on then... I still have Netscape 4.79 installed from about a million years ago, what's the URL for the page with the sound on?

OK, I take it back.... it could well be... it sounds like a rotary to me...

Mozilla will load the site... just Mazda have chozen to lock it out of the home page... I used Netscape 4.7 to find the page but the direct URL loads fine in Moz.

WankelWannabe 10-20-2002, 08:01 PM That is the same engine sound that Mazda had on their site along time ago when the RX-Evolv first came out.
There was a "Start Engine" button and when you pressed it the engine would start. I believe there was even a button to rev the engine, as well!
Is it just me or does it seem like an eternity since the RX-Evolv first made it's debut? :(

The RX-Evolve was a renesis though... if probably a bit earlier in the development... so that sound is a valuable pointer if nothing else!
said7 10-21-2002, 01:06 PM Get Crazy Browser it allows you to have tabs and groups but still views all the pages using IE.

Cool where do I get the source code? I assume I can compile it for my Sparc station under Solaris at work and my DEC Alpha workstation at home running Ultrix or Linux (Dual boot)....
For good measure, I suppose I'd have a version for my other machine at home running Intel Linux. But that's mostly just for my packet radio and logging.
PatrickB 10-21-2002, 02:54 PM Blue - if you're using galeon on linux, you can tell it to advertise as netscape 4.7 or IE. PM me if you need details on how to do this.

BlueAdept 10-21-2002, 03:24 PM Pat... I'm trolling.. LOL...
Bad show I know, but I couldn't resist... Of course, I do know that if it used IE, then it's never gonna be of any use to me... but I'm making a point.... I'm serious though when I say that it's been many years since I've used Windows.
I'm actually using Mozilla I built from post 1.2beta source.
I have used squid to hide it's identity and get into the Mazda site... their homepage is full of really nasty java and doesn't work correctly, however most of the rest of the site does.... They still should have an "Enter Anyway" button but I expect that they are embarased about how bad the Java is.

I make all my sites compliant with everything. Do me a favor though, test out my site (signature) and tell me if everything looks okay to you?
Thanks much :D
pmacwill 10-23-2002, 01:26 AM did anyone look at said7's site (previous post page). That cougar is pretty sick. And you have too much time on your hands with all that flash work. My eyes hurt.

It's actually very rare that I would find a site that actually doesn't work, although sites that won't let you enter because of some misguided browser checking are on the increase...
Your site is just fine... the W3C HTML checker (Which is pretty brutal) lists a load of minor issues that could be cleaned up in a few minutes if you wanted to be REALLY good... but I didn't see anything that would raise an eyebrow...

*nod* I don't have the time to correct those hiccups. I want to make it XHTML 1.0 compliant but I really haven't the time as of now.
RX7 Guy 10-23-2002, 03:03 PM It looks like the vents behind the front wheel wells have been enlarged significantly…The newer red RX-8 is turned sideways more than the older yellow RX-8…If the vents sizes were unchanged, they would appear smaller yet they appear larger. This suggests that the vents are functional. :D
zoom44 10-23-2002, 03:18 PM i made a similar comment the other day but i am still wondering if it is just an illusion cause by the angle of the cars. and i always assumed they were functional vents for brake cooling.

If I recall, on the FD these vents are for oil coolers... anyone care to confirm/deny this?
RX7 Guy 10-23-2002, 04:23 PM If I recall, on the FD these vents are for oil coolers... anyone care to confirm/deny this
Yes, they’re for cooling the oil. I’ve heard that only the driver side vent is functional on the base models & both are functional on the high performance models but I can’t confirm that. In terms of break venting, I wouldn’t use the vents to provide suction pressure to the breaks as that’d draw hot air into the vehicle; better to use ram air pressure from the front & blow the hot air out & away from the vehicle.
zoom44 10-23-2002, 04:37 PM rx7guy saidIt looks like the vents behind the front wheel wells have been enlarged significantly
the oil cooler(S) were(are) behind the openings below the headlights. he was talking about the vent behind the front wheels.
then rx7guy said thisIn terms of break venting, I wouldn’t use the vents to provide suction pressure to the breaks as that’d draw hot air into the vehicle; better to use ram air pressure from the front & blow the hot air out & away from the vehicle.
and yes rx7guy that is what i meant those vents are for the outgoing hot air from the brakes which is forced out by the air coming in the aforementioned openings in front of the wheels below the headlights. :D
