So, are we gonna see a "real" speed 8 or a new 7?

poolsidenaz
10-22-2006, 12:24 PM
The 7 will never be reintroduced. I wish we'd see a Mazda supercharged 8. Maybe they'll make some announcements about formula racing.

I predict the SoCal guys are going to pull off the GREATEST Sevenstock Rotary caravan EVER! (100+ cars already signed up)....

No MS 8 at SS, no reintroducing the 7. (not yet....)

As ever, RX-7s of all gens, RX-8s, rotary race cars and other historic rotaries.

No official announcements about a new 7, production Kabura or MS 8. Not to rain on the SS parade, but I just can't see Mazda using that event for an official introduction of a new model. All they'll do is "hint" at what the future may bring...

toxin440
10-22-2006, 06:57 PM
so is Richard Paul's supercharger coming out at exactly the same time as MazsportScott's turbo.... i.e. will RP's kit be available for sale after the show?

I predict you will NEVER see a major new car introduction at any Sevenstock event ever. I predict we aren't going to see as many big multirotor race cars as we have in the past. I predict this will be the last time in the near future that we see a rotary powered Mazda ALMS car. I predict Scott will showcase a couple of different running turbo cars and other cool new products. I predict Hymee's supercharger will make an appearance. I predict we'll see Pettit's supercharger on a running car. I predict many people are going to be pissed off that they didn't see what they hoped they would see. I predict that I will visit several brewpubs and try many different beers!

I would predict a few other things but they would probably piss some people off associated with those predictions. Not because it's a mean thing to say but rather than it would be the cold hard truth. We'll find out next week!

Mazda will not show the new RX-7. Mazda will not show a Mazdaspeed RX-8 (though I really wish they get on the ball about this). Mazda will make lots of hints about really cool things to come that will either go nowhere or can't be realized for another 2 to 3 years.

Pro-tuners will save the day for the RX-8 with new superchargers and turbos. People will be all over MazsportScott's new turbo. It will be up in the air between Mazsportscotts's turbo high numbers and the innovative supercharger by RP for who "steals" the show at Sevenstock. Hymee and Pettit will get honorable mentions for their superchargers and cars.

I predict Kwescott is right.

I also predict I will be there in a Yellow RX-8. and I redict the yellow RX-8 will look a LOT differant then it did last year.

I just cant decided which wheels I want to bring. last year I was on stocks, this year I get my choice between the Axis Hiro's or the Enkei RPF1's.... the wife REALLY wants to roll out there on the RPF1's. she likes the look of them better. I just dont want to drive so far on the race tires. :/

kwescott
10-27-2006, 01:42 PM
do a set on each side...race on the right, street on the left....this way, you'd only have to pack two tires in the back seat...and then switch them in the morning when we are lined up....put the two Axis you take off in the trunk....(but then again, you probably want to show off your trunk...so I guess my idea wouldn't work. You could still drive down there with the different wheels on each side...would make for an interesting drive...grip on the right, less on the left. Good for left turns. :)

this is what Michelle wants me to do also.... I don’t know , it is a lot of work for the car to sit in a parking spot. I don’t know if anyone would even notice in a normal parking spot like that.

we thought about the enkeis on one side with the autocross decals (at least the numbers and the BSP). and then the axis with no autocross numbers on the other side.

..... I don’t know, we will see. again, seems like a lot of work for no one to notice. :Freak_ani

EDIT: oh and by a lot of work, I mean changing wheels there. you don’t want to drive with one set on each side as the smaller diameter of the enkeis is bad on the rear end. IF I were to drive down there with two and two it would be enkeis in the rear and Axis in the front till I get there.
or just put two enkeis in the back seat if they will fit. (no they wont fit in the trunk with the stereo

looks like I was right about something bad happening, but it was only 50 cars, and it was a bucket, not a rock.

No Middle school girls, that was nice. :)

And the parking on the street was not that bad....amazing to see how fast the parking lot on the inside filled up though. I'm was a little dissapointed with the parking arrangements for the 8's....with little room to walk between cars, and the rears parked up against a hill...didn't make for a car friendly arrangement.

My suggestion for next year would be to have fewer cars inside the event, with greater spacing to allow for people to walk between cars and have an easier time identifying mods. I was fortunate with my spot....it would have been nice for others to have had the same opportuniy to highlight their ride. Too many stock-looking cars and too overwhelming...fewer cars next year mazda. I did enjoy the Rotorheads display area..that was nice. The vendor sections were nice....and the food area was well done. Looking forward to SS10.

rotarygod
11-01-2006, 01:52 PM
While you may want fewer cars inside, they already were at a space shortage. Many cars didn't get in. The event just keeps getting bigger and bigger. This was a much larger spot than the previous years and it still filled up. We'll need to use all of the parking across the street soon.

Having fewer cars in the "show" area would be nice...it would give us the chance to highlight vehicles and make it enticing for people to walk around the car to see everything that has been done. For me, I want to see modified 8s, not a bunch of stock cars packed together.

I also liked the idea of People's choice...even though the damn AZ guy probably would have won it again anyways. :)

Having a separate lot for the rest of the cars would be great too.

Having fewer cars in the "show" area would be nice...it would give us the chance to highlight vehicles and make it enticing for people to walk around the car to see everything that has been done. For me, I want to see modified 8s, not a bunch of stock cars packed together. The main issue with this is... who gets to pick and choose prior who and which 8s make it in? And obviously, there are not enough highly modified RX-8s to fill up too many spots at the event... so we would need to let other 8s in... then who picks which STOCK 8s get to come in?

You see, lots of complications and issue to do this. SevenStock is first and foremost a ROTARY "gathering", then a show (very minor deal to us), and the rest that goes on... I love finding rides and mods that are gems between all the more stock appearing vehicles. I do one round around the main venue and work hard to pick these up. It's always interesting to then speak to the owners.

We understand that the RX-8 will be one of our main challenges to us in the years to come, but for us it's about pride in your ride, regardless of mods. We will change and adopt for next year, but nothing to drastic.

Also there were some real nice rides in the general area, but mostly because they should up late, or couldn't stay until 2:00pm. On this, I am a little upset that there quite a few 8 owners who only stayed for an hour or so in the lot and left... guys not fair to those who commited to staying, and those that didn't get in.

It's ironic that with the OLD SCHOOL RXs, it's always the super clean STOCK vehicles that are stunning to us. :)

I also liked the idea of People's choice...even though the damn AZ guy probably would have won it again anyways. :)

Having a separate lot for the rest of the cars would be great too.You just said the reason we changes this... too many folks were double voting or bringing their friends to win... so we changed it up a bit this year, but we will probably do something different next year.

you are very right about the old skools and being stock. I also find it amazing that a car can have that many years behind it, and still look good with the OE parts.

As for the 8, I think we are still at the point where people are interested in modifications, and not stock. I feel it would be very easy to select cars...have a couple of your volunteers select cars similar to how they did it for SS8...have them drive around and hand out "entry cards".

I agree with the sense of ownership and pride....but I think I speak for most in the 8 community, that being "selected" would be a great sense of pride....and if you're not selected, at least you would have an opportunity to check out the rides that beat you.

If the selection process doesn't sound good...maybe have an application process similar to the rotorheads portion...Have people send in pics of their rides, list of modifications...and a commitment to stay till 2:00.

Just some suggestions from one 8 owner. I'm sure you would get more feedback if you posted a thread asking for "constructive feedback".

I found that the layout and timing of events was better this year. Definately some noticeable improvements and looking forward to next year. You guys did a great job.
