PLEASE HELP!! Hit & Run- Rear Bumper Damage

Ok so this has been an AWFUL weekend. Friday night/ Saturday morning i was the victim of a hit and run. This gave me about an 8 inch wide dent on the rear bumper on the drivers side. So I am asking the forum to help me on what I should do now... I initially have 2 ideas- First being to remove the bumper, bang out as much of the dent as i can then take it to a auto body place and get them to bondo it and paint the bumper. Another idea is to find an inexpensive aftermarket bumper. I would really appreciate any insight or ideas from the forum. I am trying to be as cost conscientious as possible. Oh and i have an insurance deductable of $500.00 so i dont think that will help much. I will try to post pics later today. I really appreciate any help and ideas.--Cole

Having a body shop get a new bumper for you, painting it, and installing it will be about $700 dollars.

Ordering a new bumper and having a body shop paint it and put it on yourself will cost you about $280 for bumper and $300 for the paint, so not saving much there.

Yeah finding a used one that is the same color should be the cheapest way to go but shipping on that bumper can be $70 - $90.

I found a used bumper from a sponsor on this site for $150 but it has alot of scratches on it and I need to get it painted.

I checked all of my options.

Vivid Racing it was off of the pepsi car when they decked it out, it was a silver stock bumper. They probably do not have more, it was just by chance for me to get it.

you can get the ms bumper replica off ebay... I would contact mazmart first as they would be the easiest.

Remember the ms bumper will need to be painted and fit to the car so it will probally cost more than a stock painted one.

Same thing happened to me 2 weekends ago, except I was not in the car when the person hit it. I had to replace my whole front bumper, and I too thought about going aftermarket, but then I thought about it and if I did that it would look dumb unless I got the whole kit. And I too had a $500 deductible through Allstate, I went there, they looked at it, and said yeah we'll replace it with a brand new one. My suggestion to you is just bite the deductible and just get it fixed with an oem one. My total cost for replacing the front bumper, impact absorber, front grill, and the emblem was $1,200. The rear bumper might be less if it's just the bumper and not anything underneath. It sucks man, I know completely how you feel.

Well the MS rear is not the complete bumper, it requires cutting of your existing bumper so the MS rear can *fit on the existing one*

Aftermarket replica has some complete all in 1 piece design, I think its a better idea, and you can find one on ebay for it.

damage like this ..... it should cost about 200-300 to repair, and repaint the whole thing for another 200 or so. your choice

just tell thatz itz a hit and run, it shouldnt count as your fault!

I agree 100%. A hit and run should not count against you. Run it by your insurance, see what they have to save about it. Where are you located? I know of some who one had a BB bumper (a while back) for sale. Located in Cali, I'm not going to lie, it was scratched up and it needs to be repainted. If you want I can look into it for you.

99% of that dent will pop out of you push it from the inside. the bumper is urethane/metton you know.

You can push it out but it will be deformed, it will not return to it's original shape. It will still need filler and painting. I would try to find one that was the same color with no damage or at leat one that only needs paint. I got mine painted for $495. As to the insurance deductible they don't care if it is hit and run or not, there will be a deductible, unless you have additional coverage (most people don't) If they covered hit and run with no questions asked there would be a lot of hit and run claims. He could have backed into something. (not saying he did, just saying why ins. will not cover hit and run without deductible)

Hey coop...did they have to blend the paint up onto the side panels for you? That is what they are telling me for the dent in my fender. BTW, if you get a dent in the top of your rear fender on the crease...they cannot use PDR to get it out, has to be drilled and pulled out then smoothed with a polymer (bondo). Because of very minor nicks and scratches and one section (on the bumper) of missing paint about 2 inches tall by 1/5 inch wide, I will have to have my whole bumper repainted with the trunk lid, side fenders, and rear doors blended to match.

bumper

Hey Tiff long time no talk,

No there was no blending needed, I got a used silver bumper from a guy in Austin, I had it painted off the car and swapped them myself. You can't see a difference in paint at all. To me it sounds like they are trying to milk more money out of you.

Sorry for stealing the thread!! Coop...who did you have repaint the bumper for you? I have gotten about 4 estimates and everyone says the same thing. I am looking at anywhere from $700 - $950 for all the repairs. I have also had a PDR guy try to get the dent out of the fender (at the dealership) to no avail. I thought I might try calling "the dent guy" to see if they were willing to try to get the dent out.

Hit and runs really, really suck!!! I am even 99.99% sure of where mine happened, but there is nothing that I can do about it now.
