View Full Version : Car keyed
Jump120MPH 09-01-2003, 02:19 PM Well someone took it upon themselves to scratch my car last night in the mall parking lot. 2 big sctraches on the front left fender and 2 on my dr side door. WTF!!! Im soo pissed. I wish I could have caught them in the act. It sucks you cant have a nice car and not have to worry about people F*cking with your car. Good thing is that my buddy works at an autobody shop so it wont cost me tooo much to fix it. BASTARDS!!!!
loco4rx8 09-01-2003, 02:46 PM So sorry that happened. People can be really pathetic.
I'm pretty paranoid because I'm going on a trip this weekend and will have to keep my car parked in a parking garage for 2 1/2 days. I just know something is going to happen to it, but you can't live in fear. You have to just drive the thing and hope for the best.
At least you can get your work done cheaply.
Genom 09-01-2003, 02:59 PM Loco, imagine my pain as I sit here 4000 miles from my car, knowing there is a vindictive bastard who doesnt car if he hits the cars that parks around the same area I do. I tried really hard to leave it in a spot where I know the people that usually park around there and are cool, but this butthole sometimes gets one of those spots and BAM. I am praying that friday morning when I get home it will not be dinged.
May the heartless bastard that keyed your car suffer the death of a thousand drops.
Of Hydrocloric acid.
Stu C 09-01-2003, 03:07 PM Some moron poured nitro-morse over my car a few years back. for those of you who don't know, it is a paint stripper and destroyed the paint on all but 2 panels of the entire car.
Cost a fortune to fix.
So yeh, may the keying bastard die a thousand painful deaths.

Oooh. May the car gods watch over your baby.
RX-MEN-8 09-01-2003, 04:00 PM tO: jUMP120. I feel your pain. I can't believe how many vindictive jerks are out there. I have owned some nice cars through the years, and leaving them unattended has always giving me "heartburn" to think what some jelous jerk might be doing. I still do not comprehend the destruction of property for fun. I am of the motto,"what goes around, comes around", so hopefully one day this individual, of individuals will get theirs. My neighbor just had her window smashed this week. The bums got a pocket calculator and her phone. unbelievable! I hope the paint job goes well, and I symathize w/ your anger over these ---------. you know what I mean>
seikx8 09-01-2003, 04:57 PM Sorry to hear that and you are not alone, guess you're the third member got keyed. Those people are just jealous or just bastard!
myrx8 09-01-2003, 05:51 PM Sorry to hear about your car. Us RX8 owners need to stick together.
May those who have done this, pay for this with their own cars.
TomsterRX8 09-01-2003, 08:14 PM I'm hoping the culprit comes down with a case of painfully swollen testicles.
I got a handgun carry license this year for just this type of a$$wipe.
myrx8 09-01-2003, 08:20 PM Can you shoot someone who does that and say it was self defense?
JeRKy 8 Owner 09-01-2003, 08:36 PM I parked in a lot in front of a mall today and thank god it was perfect when I came back. I really was worried I was going to come back to a scratch from a bad driver or even worse a keyed exterior. This was only during the day yet and I still havent risked leaving the car out in the open at night. Im a pretty cheap guy but Ive been valeting the car because Im very worried about something like this happening specially after I read this postWho would key someones car for no reason? Id beat the shit out of the guy if I saw him. I wish something could be done to stop things like this from happening or at least alert you. I dont think even car alarms with pagers will go off when someone keys a car. Im very sorry.
tribal azn2 09-01-2003, 08:37 PM FUCK, I JUST WASHED MY CAR AND DISCOVERED 2 KEYMARKS.
fuken haters. i hope the guy who did this dies a horrible death. i hope he gets hit by a drunk driver. i believe in karma and its only a matter of time before this guy gets his.
Jump120MPH 09-01-2003, 09:16 PM I always park the farthest out I can. Im going to have to hire someone to stand by my car when im not there.
P00Man 09-01-2003, 09:34 PM i always park in the farthest spaces, usaually at least 3 or 4 spaces between me and the nearest car

Problems from nexium (http://www.classactionsettlements.org/lawsuit/nexium/)
myrx8 09-01-2003, 09:37 PM Maybe in car video cameras like the cops have should be installed.
Find some damage, rewind the tap and hunt the jerk down.

funny that u mention this. in south africa(car jacking capital of the world) they have car guards that u can hire off the street to watch over ur car. heres the kicker, the car guards are little 9 year old kids with guns.
myrx8 09-01-2003, 09:42 PM Again, can we get this to be legal?
Maybe RX8 owners need to start a grass roots movement on protecting our cars?
Puppy1 09-01-2003, 10:28 PM Well mine didn't get keyed, but last night at the Irvie Spectrum (Outdoor Mall) someone DENTED my hood. The paint is not damaged but the dent is in the rotor shape in the center.
My heart is broken. :(
sferrett 09-01-2003, 11:33 PM So for you folks who've been the unfortunate target of folks with nothing better to do than damage other people's property - what colors are your cars?
I'm wondering if color might be a factor in attracting the low-lifes that do this kind of stuff...

damn that sux. irvine specturm is usually pretty safe. the hood is already pretty soft tho
TomsterRX8 09-02-2003, 07:58 AM I realize I may have been premature in my wishing upon the perpetrators a nasty case of painfully swollen testicles. Can I ask those who were keyed/dented/chemically bathed, were you taking up two parking spaces? If so, then I applaud the perpetrators. If not, then may their nuts find no comfort even under a big pillow.
Puppy1 09-02-2003, 09:26 AM My car is Titanium and I was parked in only one space between a Lexus 450 and a VW Beetle pretty far out in the lot.
It has been suggested that possibly a wayward baseball or golfball did the damage, but there are no fields or courses anywhere near the Spectrum, and no one would be playing that time of night (Sunday at 8-11 pm).
:( sorry to hear about the dents and scratches that's HORRIBLE!
Be glad your car wasn't in the parking lot I can see from work though.
This morning a car caught on fire, torching all the cars near it! Man that would suck to come out at 5 o'clock to a crispy car! Especially if the car is hard to replace like the 8!

It was probably some dickheads goofin' off and threw something that hit your car and retrieved it.
Man.. times are getting worse here in So Cal.. Everyone's so jacked up round here. I find myself opting to go somewhere less crowded now, since most of those big places like Spectrum, The Block, etc... are full of hoodlums... It's sad.
I took some pictures of the "fire" The car that caused it was gone. All the cars around were untouched, except for the unlucky soul that he parked behind.
Scortched rear end (Altima).
P.S. Thos altenza's melt nicely.
I suppose this got off easy, all that has to be replaced is the back bumper, lights and trunk lid. Quarter panels were untouched!
seikx8 09-02-2003, 06:14 PM OUCH!!! Guess that why we all need premium insurance for that type of damages.

Everyone I know that does that gets their car keyed. It's like saying my car is to good to park with your cars and people that would key cars to begin with will seek you out. There used to be someone that parked in my lot that had am Acura TL and they would park it far out in the lot and take up 2 spots on an angle. Hell I wanted to key the guy or at least smack him for thinking his car was even worth that treatment. Guess what, he got keyed.

RX-Nut 09-02-2003, 06:40 PM Sad.. just sad.
It's a shame to see what some people do. What has become of society.
So what if you park far away, that doesnt make you special, arrogant or rude. It just says you're taking precaution against those unfortunate door dings intentional or not. Also says you dont mind walking.. :)
So what if you car looks great, it just shows that you take pride in taking care of your possessions...
What gives anyone the right to walk up to your car and key it because they just feel like it. RX-8, 350Z, S2000 whatever your flavor.. dont be a hater.
If you all agree to that fact that anyone deserves a keying just because the car looks a certain way or because he/she parks far away, I guess you can agree with the fact that someone can shoot out all your windshields too while they're at it... Why not?
Now, parking in the middle of two stalls is just plain rude, and I'm sure you'll get what's coming to you.. but it still doesnt warrant a keying.
Jump120MPH 09-02-2003, 07:01 PM Yeah I took up 2 spaces the farthest away. FU if you think that warrants a car keying. You deserve it for just saying that. Only had the car 3 weeks just taking special precautions on door dings and stuff. I dont think Im better then anyone else, nor do I think that when someone else does it that has a nice car.
EricV 09-02-2003, 07:12 PM I am so pissed off. I can't believe how sh**ty people can be. Should I go to a body shop or try to do the repair myself? I went ahead and ordered a repair kit from scratchking.com. Anybody have experience doing this sort of thing? My car is black.
Eric
mikeb 09-02-2003, 07:20 PM I agree-- NOTHING MAKES KEYING A CAR OK
That really really sucks. That scratch kit may help it look slightly better but nothing short of an orbital buffer with a professional compound polish and wax is going to make it go away. And if it's deep enough, only new paint will do.
RX-GR8 09-02-2003, 08:24 PM thats messed up. hope you get it fixed back to the way it was.
jmanolov 09-02-2003, 08:24 PM If is the usual deep key mark:
you can use touch up paint to mask it - but it still be visible
the only way to fix it will be to repaint the whole panel
loco4rx8 09-02-2003, 08:29 PM Wow, so sorry. You have my sympathies.

I laugh every time I see someone that does that, they are the first cars I notice in a parking lot when I go to the mall. I would imagine that the people that are keying the gars see the same thing. I think it's the best way to get your car keyed. I'm not saying it's right but even I think to myself "what a jackass" everytime I see someone that parks like that. I guess others think "what a jackass, lets show him" and key the car.
When I go to areas that I don't want my car to be messed with I park further out but not away from all the others cars, just far enough out that there are going to be closer parking spots for new arrivals. Or I find a spot that has a nice amount of room on both sides and preferably next to nicer cars. Not perfect, but much less conspicuous.
Ike
carnut 09-02-2003, 08:31 PM Bummer, as we used to say. That's really despicable.
myrx8 09-02-2003, 08:34 PM I don't try to park out of the way. I try to blend in with other cars. I hope this will not attract much attention.
I mean come on, when you park your car and start walking in somewhere, do you really look at the cars as you enter in the parking lot?
loco4rx8 09-02-2003, 08:37 PM First, there's no excuse for someone keying a car, no matter how or where the car is parked. It's illegal, destruction of property.
That said, I take my chances and do not park in two spaces. I agree with those who say it just makes you a target. I don't want to draw any more attention to the car than necessary.
Usually, I park out a way from others, or I find a spot where both cars have left plenty of room, with a bias towards the left side of the spot, hoping there's not a passenger in the lefthand car.
In the end, if someone wants to key a car, they're gonna do it. I just don't want to put those thoughts in their head for them by making myself too obvious.
myrx8 09-02-2003, 08:42 PM I agree with you. I here all the time at work about people sayng they parked real close to a really nice car just because it took two spaces or was way out of the way. I work with some vindictive co-workers.
red_rx8_red_int 09-02-2003, 09:06 PM I agree with you. I here all the time at work about people sayng they parked real close to a really nice car just because it took two spaces or was way out of the way. I work with some vindictive co-workers.
I understand the taking up two spots--it is rude. But what's up with parking way out? If you're willing to walk farther to park away from the crowd, why should anyone have a problem with that? And the more I think about it, what's wrong with taking up two spaces when you're way out away from the other cars? You're not depriving anybody of anything. What about all the times you see beaters taking up two spaces because the driver can't park, they're in close taking prime real estate, while the car way out is taking real estate no one else wants. It's childish jealousy to want to damage a car even when the car is taking up two far away spaces. It's only understandable to me when the car is taking up two good spaces and then it's not jealousy, it's anger at the rudeness.
myrx8 09-02-2003, 09:08 PM I think it comes down to jealousy and idiots.
When I see those cars parked way out, I think, did they really need to do that?
Elara 09-02-2003, 09:11 PM This thread makes me want to park my car in a locked garage and never take it anywhere. I'm already terrified of going to the mall and the grocery store, and these stories just make it worse. I feel so badly for you guys who have had this stuff happen :(
RodsterinFL 09-02-2003, 09:15 PM I posted this too -about being keyed. Mine wasn't as bad as your sounds. I guess we can be the keyed club. - ahhhhh! Sorry it happened. I noticed that there seems to be a thing for keying Porsches too -
Sick.
I can't have it so I gonna key it!
Glad you know someone to fix it.

If you're way out away from other cars what's the need in taking two spaces. Parking way out will make the car get noticed. Parking way out and taking 2 spaces just screams "I think my car is better than yours, please come key it!" The key (no pun intended) is to blend in, not stick out like a sore thumb.
By the way, I don't think I've said it yet. I'm sorry about the car getting keyed, it's really crappy and I hope it can just be buffed out. Someone on the WRX boards just had someone key every body panel down to the metal, it can't be buffed and it going to be very expensive :(

WRXs seem to be a big target as well, the young ricer crowd hate WRXs with a passion it seems. Almost every time I hear a large muffler coming down the street they stop at the bottom of my driveway and rev. I'm intrigued by the whole revving thing, really what's the point? I find it especially funny since they won't rev on me 90% of the time when I rev on them on the streets, they won't even look over at me. It's just a matter of time that some stupid kids are going to come back and mess with it. I'm getting a place with a garage next month it's driving me so nuts.

Couldn't agree more. Taking up two spaces is just telling the rest of the world, "FU...My car is better than yours!" It absolutely encourages others, who are already envious, to teach that a$$hole a lesson.
On the other hand, if you were parked in a lot well away from other cars and there's no chance that one of the spaces will be needed, then by all means take up two. I still don't do that but I do always try to park away from the masses, preferably guarded by an island curb on the right side.
I'm not saying anyone who got keyed parked this way but those who take up two close-in spots in a crowded lot deserve any vandalism that may come their way. It's rude and unacceptable and some people are going to do more that just mumble under their breath.
o_town_racer 09-02-2003, 11:13 PM I had a similar situation with my '89 Beretta years and years ago....it was only a few months old and the trunk lid was keyed down to the bare metal. Insurance helped repaint it. Make sure to get it painted at a reputable shop and keep the receipt. The clear coat on the repainted trunk lid started peeling off a couple years later. The shop tried to tell me that they couldn't do anything for me. My insurance company actually came with me to the shop to force them to own up to their shoddy work. To make a long story short, the trunk lid was repainted at minimal cost to me and I didn't have that problem again. Anyone low enough to do that to a new car doesn't deserve to live here in the US.
tribal azn2 09-03-2003, 01:19 AM insurance covers scratches? does the preminium go up?
o_town_racer 09-03-2003, 09:33 AM Yes, insurance covers scratches (minus your deductible if you have one). At the time I had no deductible for comprehensive on the Beretta. Someone keying your car is considered vandalism. I did have to file a police report, but that was about it, then they took care of me. As long as you don't abuse your insurance and don't have any accidents or tickets against you, your rates should not go up (I have State Farm).
MR.ROBOTO 09-03-2003, 10:08 PM keying is a VERY bad thing. my sister's prelude is keyed all over the place.
my frend is too scared to drive his new s2000 to skewl kuz he KNOWS it'll get keyed. my skewl is loaded with haters who will hate u for having something nice (ex: an s2000). on the other hand, this one guy at my skewl who has a jaguar has yet to have his car keyed (or atleast i havent seen any on it). if i DO get an rx8, i will most definitely not drive it to skewl. if i ever did take a nice car out, it would be best to not get bright colors and try to blend in amongst the rest. one way is to park inbetween other ppl with nice cars. not TOO nice but nice enuff that urs doesnt stick out like a sore thumb. mazda should make an ANTI KEYING thing that would keep ur car from being keyed. like... keyproof paint or some electric shock crap that will electricute any keys not made by mazda (and for ur car). that'd own.
conclusion: keying is a no no and all who perform such an evil act should be shot on site, hung by the toes, stretched, peepeed and poopood on, and finally, kicked to death.
