Just wondering how many of us realise how much the 8 is going to be centre of attention? Although my car will be garaged overnight during the day it will be sitting in a Connex train station car park which is bit of a worry.

I know when I had my mint XJS it attracted attention from those who just wanted to look around outside and inside the car (accidently setting off the alarm in many cases) to others who felt they had spit on it, pour coffee on it and scratch it as well as seemingly on purpose crashing their doors into mine. With the 8 I think we can also expect the boy racers to want to test.

My point is that with the 8 you will never be able to go anywhere and melt in. The car will stick out and attract attention, parked or being driven and not everone will enjoy that.

That is a good point and will affect some people more than others.

Fortunately, mine will be garaged at night and is in secure parking all day at work. If I go out on business I will just need to find somewhere that looks safe to park.

I have the same issue with the Impreza currently, as it is a joyriders dream car. I dont go anywhere dodgy in it, and would never drive in or around Birmingham at night.

If we go out in the evening we use the wife's car. Although its a nice car, it blends in more as Mercs/BMWs etc are 10 a penny where we live.

It's a concern for me as well. I share a drive to Cardiff from West Wales with 2 other guys and so only drive as far a Swansea (40 miles a day) when it's not my turn to go all the way. I leave it on a public road in a reasonable area but still Swansea used to be the car crime capital of the UK.:(

I'm sure I'll have several nervous weeks with that anticipation of returning to where I parked it in the evenings to find only a load of glass on the floor.:(

It's always been like this when I've changed cars but it will be twice as bad cos it's such a 'noticeable' car and the first one I've had from new.

Maybe we should employ some of them to "secure" our cars from Japan for us. :)

It sure is addictive. But here's me and the misses down in the dumps 'cause the RX8 delayed and then I find all you guys. And we're all in the same boat (wish the cars were!). So now I have some people to chat with and share my annoyances etc etc.

You did indeed make a valid point, I was only discussing the same with the wife last night.

I am probably going to get a tracker fitted and buy a safe for keeping the keys in at night. The car is going to be garaged at night and an additonal security lock bolted to the door and the ground.

Not that I am paranoid or anything.

I am less worried about nights as mine will be securily locked away. Its the daylight interest. If one has never owned a car which for one reason or another attracts attention then one will be surprised what a pain it can be especially parking anywhere in public. Worth the hassle has this has a positive side too but....

Its something you will get use to but only after a couple of weeks of sweating........

Yeah, someone at work saw me posting today and got very sneery when they saw I'd added 1300 posts. I guess it does seem a lot since March but hey, I like writing.

I'm also going to buy a tracker or one of its equivalents (such as the trakm8). Good idea about the keys, since there has been a huge increase in the theft of keys being burgled from the owners house.

My keys are in my jeans right next to the bed at night. If someone has the balls to come upstairs then 10 years of Ju-Jitsu training and the undying love for my new motor means they would get a fright!

Must admit that this has me worried too. It's not just new cars that get damaged I've just returned from hols in my soon to be wife's Mondeo & have had the mirror knocked off and had a coat of white paint added to the red passenger door!!!!

Wasn't too happy at the time but imagine if that had been my new RX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that I'm going to have to take to parking in the middle of two spaces to ensure clearance. ( mind you thats probably one way of guaranteeing that the side of your shiny new RX will be introduced to Mr nasty sharp key!)

Everywhere we go now I keep saying "I wouldn't park the RX here"

If we do go for a day out I'll end up sitting in the bleedin car!

I doubt that very much. Just on Hols at the moment so plenty of free time. Back to work on Monday so posts will slow down then :-(

I guess they just couldn't understand what there is to talk about when it's just a car... Having said that, this guy is madly into football and reads the Sun so it's two way traffic... (no offence to football loving Sun readers but it just isn't my thing OK?)

Oi Oi! Looks like we're going to have to calm yopu two down . Get on Mirc will you :D Anyway, I LOVE the sun and football. And Wolves got their first point at the weekend.

Welcome to RX-late coming up on the wings with 29 posts in 1 day. Jesus, thats impressive! I reckon we should make min length 100 words, that would stop 80% of the posts on here though...hmmmmm

Anyway, back to the thread (see this is ONE post). Oh yes, I know I am one of the worst for diverting them, but NO WAY would I park in the middle of 2 spaces - thats just begging for a keying (as whiteco points out).

As for parking, yes I am in an underground car park at work and I will ensure I am in at 7.30 every day to make sure I get the "wide" parking spaces. At home I have the luxury of a double garage, which helps! However, I have toyed with the idea of installing auto garage door opener/closer. I HAVE so far spent more than my record of £6.99 on sunglasses already with the £50 Oakleys (And these are £90 everywhere else) - this time I'm gonna treat the car with respect....! :D

On a more positive note there is a great thread in the general forum describing the attention the car is getting in the States.

I forgot to mention that there is also a postive side to ownership of a unusual car which normally compensate the worry factor.

Mark, nice thread, well found. I hope there is a similar reaction in the UK, but I fear envy could be one such reaction. Envy, jealousy, badge snobbery and maybe carjack are the negatives I fear. I have to the let the wife drive it in my area as she is far better looking tahn me (and probably in the car) so that it racks up some street cred points, for when I take it out, its less included to be maligned.
