Dear RX-8 drivers,

On 9th December 2006 (Sat), my licence to be a bachelor will be revoked until further notice.

To make the wedding super cool, fun and exciting, I would like to request for a wedding convoy of the RX-8s to be the escorting guard of honour for the day. (Stephy88 must wear SAF No. 1…hehehehe).

I will be driving my 8 to bring my lao po to church and it would be wonderful if its fellow brothers and sisters would come along with it on its (and my) Special Day Out. Let’s make jaws drop once more at the sight of 8s in singapore! :ylsuper: I hope I will be fortunate enough to have the support of the RX-8 fraternity in Singapore on the big day.

The church is St Ignatius - 120 King's Rd. Don't worry - no parking problem if everyone goes to the car park behind the church - I think it's Victoria Park Road. What you may have seen in the past is the huge traffic jam right in front of the church on a Sunday.

Dont worry abt parking! I will instruct most of the other cars (except my friends and close family) to use the underground cp leaving the 8s free rein of the larger car park on the grounds at Victoria Park Road.

Heh I'd not gotten my car for more than a month when i drive in devilish8's convoy this year . And that was my first tme ever doing a wedding convoy...you can guess how excited I was to see so many 8s then. Poisoning on a grand scale. I never recovered...

Dear all,

Thanks to everyone who responded! After recce on two weekends, here is the route for the wedding convoy on 9 December 2006.

Movement will be from Kampong Arang Road to St Ignatius Church @ Kings Road, Bukit Timah.

Traffic Conditions: Expected medium to heavy traffic owing to time of day. Depending on weather, road conditions may vary from bone dry to WetWetWet.

Communications: Walkie talkies will be used to bridge communications from the convoy lead to the rear vehicles.

Pre-1330 hrs @ Concentration Area): :grouphug:
For your comfort, I suggest the multistory carpark at 12 Kampong Arang Road (see Map A). Naturally it is sheltered and thus more comfortable for you guys. The wedding car will be parked on the 4th floor of the carpark. You may wish to line up in order of move. Light refreshment will be provided. Indent is as per list.

1330-1345 hrs @ Form Up Area :jump:

Vehicle Line-Up: Gentlemen (and lady), start your engines! Cars form up along Kampong Arang road. (see Map A) Depending on how many cars there are, tailback can be up to Performance Motors showroom and down the road to Dunman High hostel. Perhaps you may want to entice people to think twice about buying a 3-series. Order of move is as per vehicle colour:

1. Lead / Outrider: Amethyst Black & the Blues (Stormy Blue / Winning Blue)
2. Wedding Car
3. Reds (Velocity / Copper / Heinz Tomato)
4. Brilliant Blacks + Amethyst Blacks
5. Snowflake Pearl Whites
5. Rear Escort: Sunlight Silvers and Galaxy Greys
6. Safety Car / Blocker / 2nd Most Important Car: INXS :angel: (This is because safety cars have go-faster stripes, as going faster is safer)

Safety Briefing: This will consist of telling everyone to check whether they have more than ¾ tank of petrol and to fasten their seatbelt. Hahaha. Vehicles will move out at 1345 hrs sharp. This will be followed by distribution of a red certificate of participation.

1345 – 1445 hrs D-Day H-Hour :rock:

1. Move out from Form Up Area onto Mountbatten Road, then Sims Way (heading in the direction of the PIE). Vehicles spread across 3 lanes.

2. Follow usual rounding route up to PIE. Maintain convoy integrity. Safety car and rear vehicles assist with lane control. Note choke points 1 and 2 on Map B.

3. Filter onto PIE in the direction of Bukit Timah. Due to single lane entry, convoy will be moving in single file. Note choke point 3 at entrance to PIE (see Map C).

There is a chance that we will split up. Lead cars will occupy lanes 2 and 3 on PIE, reform convoy in 2 rows and slow down (45-55 km/h which is the estimated expressway speed in lane 3 at that time) until last car / safety car catches up. If anyone thinks we are too slow, they have lane 1 to overtake. When last car catches up, convoy can occupy lanes 1 and 2. Safety car and rear outriders will initiate formation change by changing lane to block.

4. Exit PIE to your left at Eng Neo Avenue (see Map D). By now, hopefully we will be in one straight line. Lead car to hold position at Dunearn Road traffic light and let it turn red (if it isn’t already).

5. From Eng NeoAvenue, go straight down Dunearn Road. Under the Adam Road flyover, there is a traffic-light assisted U-turn. (see Map E) We will have to go back up Bukit Timah Road.

6. Enter Duchess Road. Convoy to stop and regroup if necessary. (see Map E)

7. Enter Kingsmead Road. Deafen residents. Reach church carpark. End of Wedding Rounding.

8. Makan! Light refreshment will be provided.

I originally wanted to exit at Stevens Road then go up Bukit Timah Road, but the traffic was super heavy over 2 weekends and there are lots of break contact points. It would be doable if we occupied 2 lanes and maintained a steady / slow speed but too complicated and stressful.

FYI the lao po has passed her Basic Theory Test. Her goal is to drive the 8 by end January (legally).

Erm, the ribbons are cloth ribbons, as are the thin ribbons that attach the bow to the handle of the car - I don't think they will scratch the paint work?

Some people list their names down knowing that they will be free to attend and some people list their names down hoping that they can attend. Don't be so self righteous to think that just because you did nothing wrong, you have the right to tell off or insult those who could not make it. Those that did not make it may have already informed the bridge and groom and even if they didn't, does it warrant the use of bad language and to the point of insinuating how people conduct their lives? I did not inform the both of u, because it's your big day and I feel that it is not appropriate to msg or call u at the last minute to inform about negative things. I hope for your understanding on my actions.

After recovering from two hangovers and two dinners (with one more to go), I logged on to find the thread expanded immensely. Its okay guys, relax yah? I and the lao po were quite happy that there were cars that came. A big thank you to those who took the time to come down, I am very touched.

INXS / SNIX / Malcolm, the lao po and I thank you for being an excellent safety car. I dont think I've seen any car control the rear as well as you. You have pierced my heart =p I dont think I can make fun of an RX-8 with a big racing stripe for a while. Maybe until next week.

To the hungry drivers who made it, we are sorry we couldnt find the food! To this day we do not know where it is and in whose car it is breeding cockroaches. Please approach me next meet and I treat you to mACS ice cream!

To those who couldnt make it, we wish you were there. I know you had you own reasons and I dont begrudge you. Many people who could not turn up had called me before the day and also that morning. I appreciated that you told me. I was quite harassed on the day itself though - we had a very tight schedule and I was also tortured!

My videographer was very sad as he had three chase pickups/lorries ready to cover all the action. He was quite excited and I was a bit pai seh. At least the photographer got to shoot car shots to his delight. In all honesty, I thought no cars came at all. At 120pm when I was drinking vinegar, eating bittergourd and other disgusting stuff, I was peeping over the ledge looking for cars. Didnt see any for 10-15 mins so I was mentally prepared for no convoy and me and my brothers just go and drive off.

(En En, sorry I didnt call you back to tell you where exactly to go, I was drinking vinegar at that exact moment and energies were focused on breaching the door. Hope you made it. We were very much on the clock and we moved out on schedule whether anyone was there or not).

But imagine my surprise when my "brothers" went up to drive the car down for me and my bride and told me there were 8s upstairs. So I thank god for little miracles (and slightly rounder ones like INXS) and we had a tight and pretty organised convoy. Hope you guys didnt mind the slow speeds (the teddy bears can only take up to 65kmh without flying off - and when i went pedal to the metal today they folded down at 100kmh and dint dare to get up again).

To cut it short, it was a beautiful sunny day (no dark clouds) made even more beautiful by a formation squadron of 8s. Stay tuned for the pictures and videos. I hope you like them cos effort was truly made.

We are all 8 drivers and we are united by our love for this car. No point quibbling lah. Eat MacDonalds, get fat, be happy.

Sorry that i was not groomed nor dressed for your occasion cos i had like 2hrs of sleep following the plunge of CND which made my life hell and balls squeezed tightly by my clients.

The convoy was maintained in an acceptable manner all thanks to everyone in the group for being pre-emptive and their personal convoy schema .. not my credit. The 2-3 pm traffic was rather tight but I suppose the crew had a good shot on the stretch towards Eng Neo, as from there on, i didnt had to do much but to focus on the sweet young thing in the C180 from your side(Pls pm me her contact no.)
For the benefit of those who were not present, both the cute little teeny weeny bears had a puff of Marlboro Lights, instant addiction. Maybe if you were to light another for them both, they might Stand up (just a suggestion)
