Will is gun! and certainly besides the lack of torque down low there is not much problem.

But astro and I are still in front. 3 RX-8s within a kW of rear wheel power. :dunno:

Interesting to note that the 3 RX8s that pulled roughly the same power on the dyno were on Shell Optimax/V-power.

I gotta say, on the dyno - our RX8's sound like a jet about to be catapulted from an aircraft carrier. AFTERBURNER "ON" ... "CHECK!"

Thanks for the vid taka - just about to go out and drive around after doing the ECU reset as per forum instructions - will post findings on the other thread later.

According to the fat dude that mucked around us during dyno. :evil_laug . V power is totally new fuel and much cleaner ones :Peace: . Without what much preservative :boink: :dunno: :p:

And that means? Especially for the RENESIS? :icon5: :icon5:

I just spend the night with my sons football team and parents. One of the fathers there works for Shell and used to work for BP.

VPower is the same base petroleum fuel, but with a) anti corrosives in the 100 octane to offset the ethanol and a reformulation of the additives to get a more dense energy and make it a cleaner, more ecological fuel.

takahashi

I still fail to be convinced that VPower is any different from Craptimax I used to put into the car.

How does he compare BP Ultimate to VPower

Thanks for the vid Taka.

Do you have any printouts to share?

auzoom
10-22-2006, 05:35 PM
Taka, I doubt the changes from optimax to vpower are anything that you or I would notice in the car. A dyno _may_ show it, but I doubt it. As for Ultimate, we didnt talk about it much, other than he was suprised when I told him the butt dyno felt like it had less power and that I got better economy.

For those who care, stock car got 119Kw and 432Nm. http://rx-8.harrisfamily.id.au/images/auzoom-dyno-20061021.jpg

Power sounds right but, unless I'm missing something here :o: , isn't that torque figure about double the spec figure??? :scratchhe

Grizzly8
10-22-2006, 06:44 PM
We wish we could get 432.5 NM :) :Eyecrazy: ....Even the FI CARS ARE ONLY MANAGING 350NM .

SOMEBODY MADE A HUGE BOO BOO :spank:

Funny you should say that as I said exactly the same and have asked the question in a number of other threads which no one has been able to answer

I was explained by the guy doing the dyno at Pro-Tek that ATW, power is lost, while torque is magnified by the diff.

PS not sure if you noticed the Chart placed into my previous post.

Yeah, I saw the chart and the curves both look familiar to my untrained eye, but the figures seem too high for torque. :Freak_ani

Meh, what do I know :mdrmed: ? Was just curious why the Nm figure wasn't (MUCH) closer to the published spec.

Grizzly8

211 NM is the spec figure for Torque , so if Andrews explanation is correct even doubling it at max RPM it comes to 422 NM ,so thats a possible explanation . :)

Your graph is of NA cars the other from MAZFIX is of a Turboed car.

We are not questioning your intergrity , just curious at the results .

Sorry I removed that post while I did some math to make sure I wasnt making an idiot of myself (as i normaly do when I dont think before posting). I never took it that my integrity was on the line...my integrity went out the door long ago ;)

The mazfix chart shows both stock and turbo'ed, the blue is stock.
http://www.mazfix.com.au/images/perfproducts/rx8_upgrade_torque_dyno_large.jpg

The stock torque figures are just shy of 600 ft-lb, which when divided by .737 give you 814Nm. Now the issue is that they could have ben doing it in 2nd or 3rd gear, while mine was 4th and best gear would be 5th as it has 1:1 ratio.

btw, I am hoping to catch up with one of the guys that works on the software for dynamic dynamo's here in melb over the next few weeks. I will try and get a more detailed explaination as to the hows and whys.

Also, I had some pretty nasty fuel in the car during the dyno which caused pinging at around 8500 on the first run and apparently the reason for the choppy lines on the posted chart.

Really? :Freak_ani

One of the few benefits of FWD I guess - less dispersion of power through the drivetrain.

It was a bone stok car. and yes, its one of the advantages. But the disadvantage is that when you want to turn your no better that Smart Car :)

Stock except a sticker on the windscreeen - that prob add 20kW atw

Absolutely.

Still, a 40Kw advantage is nothing to sneeze about...

C'mon Mazda - factory FI please. :hahano:

Having driven an MPS 6 all weekend I have to say ... YUCK!

While it has a 40Kw advantage over the 8, it takes FOREVER to kick in. I reckon in a 1/4 mile with an 8 it would be down to the driver.

Cant vouch for the 3, but I hope its better.

On my drive day I was chasing a Mazda 6MPS at Sandown and I have to agree with AUZoom.

I would give him almost the full length of the front straight head start and by turn 4 I had to back off to avoid hitting him (this was with two different 6MPS's and drivers). What really supprised me was under acceleration out of turn 4 onto the back straight I expected the 6MPS to pull away and leave me behind, but he didn't. I couldn't quite keep up, but the 6MPS only made a couple of car length on me. I only tried to keep up on the straight the once as it made the turns very boring. The sad thing is that the 6MPS is almost the same price as an RX8!!

The worst thing about the 6MPS is the way it is on- and off-boost continually in the 60-80kph range, making it very hard to drive smoothly in traffic/urban driving. That, and its bloody clutch!

auzoom
